History

In October 1966, the Junior College District of College of the Mainland was established. In December, voters approved the issuance of $2.85 million in bonds and related taxes for debt repayment and operation. Subsequently, the board of directors selected the president, hired faculty and staff, and determined the temporary school site. In September 1967, the first batch of 414 Students were enrolled.

In February 1970, the college moved to a new campus. In May of the same year, voters approved a $4.75 million bond issue for the second phase of construction, including the construction of an art building, a sports complex, and a student center. The second phase of construction was completed in September 1972.

In 1984, the college expanded the technical vocational building for the third time. In 1991, two industrial education buildings were built for automotive mechanics and diesel technology programs. In 1999, the new public service vocational building opened.

In 2003, the college opened the North County branch of the Continental College Learning Center in League City, Texas, and in 2004 In 2017, the college became one of only three colleges in Texas to offer college high school courses on campus.
