Introduction and Overview: Craven Community College provides a full range of credit and non-credit learning opportunities for the 104,000 residents of Craven County, North Carolina, and local military personnel. The college has campuses in New Bern and Havelock, and also has a teaching site at the Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station, offering a wide range of courses, including associate degree programs, certificate programs, university transfer programs, etc., with approximately 4,000 students participating in its credit education courses and more than 9,000 students participating in workforce development programs each year.

History and Establishment: The college originated as an extension of the Lenore Industrial Education Center. In 1965, the state legislature officially established it as a formal extension of Lenore's industrial education unit, and the school was originally located in the Harvey Building in New Bern. In 1967, county voters approved a bond issue to fund the construction of a new technical school. By the early 1970s, the college's permanent campus in New Bern was completed.
