School History
The school was founded in 1893 as a private normal preparatory school named East Stroudsburg Normal School.
In 1920, the ownership of the school was transferred to the Pennsylvania government and changed its name to East Stroudsburg State Normal School.
In 1927, the school was granted the right to grant Bachelor of Science in Education and Bachelor of Science in Health Education, and was subsequently renamed East Stroudsburg State Teachers College.
In 1960, the school added more courses and was renamed East Stroudsburg State College again.
In 1983, the school became a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education with the approval of Senate Bill 506 and adopted its current name.
