The history of the college can be traced back to 1855, when the land was purchased by Mr. Ashmead from Governor Farwell and later developed by Samuel Marshall. In 1873, Governor Cadwallader Washburn purchased the land and donated it to the Dominican Sisters for educational purposes.
In 1881, St. Regina Academy was established as a private boarding school for girls.
