School History
The college was founded in 1787. It was originally Franklin College, which was funded by Benjamin Franklin with 200 pounds. In 1835, Marshall College, named after John Marshall, the fourth Chief Justice of the United States, was established. In 1853, the two colleges merged to form the current Franklin Marshall College.
Female students began to be admitted in 1969.
