School Overview
History of the school: On November 2, 1935, voters approved the creation of the Galveston Junior College District, but a subsequent election to support the district through property taxes failed. In the mid-1960s, Galveston citizens once again pushed for the establishment of a college, and in 1966, a tax rate vote supporting the new college was passed. Galveston College officially opened in September 1967.

School size: The campus area is about 1 acre, with about 2,400 students taking credit courses each semester, and nearly 8,000 people participating in continuing education and workforce development programs each year.

Professional settings: The college offers a wide range of associate degree programs covering arts and humanities, health sciences, nursing, science/technology/engineering/mathematics, computer science and information technology, public service/business/industry and other fields.
