George Fox University is a private Christian university located in Newberg, Oregon, USA. The following is a detailed introduction:
School History
The school was founded in 1885 and was originally named Friends Pacific Academy. It was renamed Pacific College in 1891 and George Fox College in 1949. It merged with Western Evangelical Seminary in 1996 to become the current George Fox University.
Academic Situation
Professional Settings: There are liberal arts colleges, behavioral and health science colleges, education colleges, management colleges, vocational education colleges and seminaries, etc., offering more than 40 undergraduate degree majors, 5 seminary majors and about 11 master's and doctoral degree majors.
Teaching Mode: Small classes are implemented, with a teacher-student ratio of 1:13. Most of the teachers have doctoral degrees, and students can get more attention.
Research Projects: Participate in the Richter Scholars Program, sponsor 15 to 25 students to conduct original research each year, and provide students with overseas study opportunities through the "Best Semester" project of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.
Student Situation
The school has a total of More than 4,000 students, including 2,289 undergraduates, 1,500 graduate students, and 250 other students. The proportion of international students is 7.4%, and students come from many countries and regions.
Campus Facilities
The campus covers an area of 108 acres and has more than 70 buildings, including fully equipped science, engineering, and nursing laboratories and software systems, renovated classrooms, Bauman Auditorium, and complete sports facilities.
Sports and Athletics
Its sports team, called the Bruins, is a member of the NCAA Division III Northwest Conference. In the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons, the school won the Northwest Conference McIlroy-Lewis All-Around Sports Trophy.
Rankings and Honors
According to the U.S. News American University Comprehensive Ranking, the school ranked 269th in 2024. In addition, it is rated as a national first-class comprehensive university in the United States by U.S. News and World Report. In the 2010 Forbes Best Colleges Ranking, it ranks 58th among more than 4,000 colleges and universities in the United States and ranks among the top 20 universities on the West Coast of the United States.
