School History
The school was founded by the Sisters of Holy Destiny in 1963. It was originally a Catholic college for Christian women. In 1965, it awarded degrees to the first five graduates. In 1967, it built its first school building, the John J. Wright Library. After experiencing financial difficulties, it was reformed into an independent coeducational Catholic university and established a partnership with the Pittsburgh Art Society, increasing course options. In 1973, it joined the Central University and College Alliance, and the number of students increased significantly. New dormitories were put into use.
