Landmark College is a private college located in Putney, Vermont, USA. Here is a detailed introduction to the school:
History:
Founded: 1985. Its campus originally belonged to Windham College, which was idle after Windham College closed in 1978. Later, after a series of twists and turns, Landmark College was finally established.
Development History: Bachelor's degrees began to be offered in 2012; in 2015, the $9.6 million, 28,500-square-foot technology center, the McFarland Building, was built, which was the first building built by the school since its establishment. On July 13, 2024, after the departure of the original president Peter Eden, Jim Dlugos served as interim president, and a permanent president is expected to be appointed in 2025.
Academic Highlights:
Unique Enrollment: Designed specifically for students with different learning styles, including those with learning disabilities (such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, etc.), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism, or executive dysfunction.
Personalized Instruction: Students receive personalized, targeted instruction in their studies that far exceeds that of traditional universities. The school has a low student-faculty ratio of approximately 7:1 (some data show 6:1). Classroom teachers use universal design principles and multimodal teaching strategies to meet the learning needs of different students.
Majors and Courses: Associate and Bachelor's degree programs in liberal arts and sciences are offered. In addition, a post-baccalaureate certificate program in learning differences and neurodiversity was launched for education professionals in 2018.
Education Research: Conduct groundbreaking research on learning disabilities, ADHD, and autism through the Landmark College Institute for Research and Training, and share knowledge with educators around the world through webinars, seminars, professional training, and online courses.
Campus environment:
Located in the rural area of Vermont, the environment is beautiful and quiet, which is conducive to students' concentration on study and provides students with a close community environment.
Convenient transportation, with transportation hubs nearby, makes it convenient for students to travel around the world. At the same time, the small town where the campus is located is inclusive, allowing students to study and live with peace of mind.
Student situation: The school currently has about 494 students from 38 states in the United States and 10 countries around the world. The proportion of graduates from the school who are employed or pursuing further studies is relatively high, and about 87% of bachelor's degree graduates are able to find employment or enter graduate school.
In general, although Lanmark College is small in size, it has unique advantages and characteristics in providing higher education for students with special learning needs, and has a high influence in related education fields.
