History:
Lourdes University was founded in 1958 by the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania in Syracuse as an extension of the College of St. Teresa in Minnesota, named Lourdes Junior College, to educate the Sisters of St. Francis.
In 1964, the liberal arts institution received accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. As time went on, the number of religious candidates decreased, and the school began to admit non-religious students, starting with women in 1969 and men in 1975.
