History: Founded in 1896 by Impressionist painter William Merritt Chase, it was originally named The Chase School. In 1904, art educator Frank Alvah Parsons joined and later became the dean, and founded pioneering courses such as fashion design, interior design, and graphic design. In 1941, in honor of Frank Alvah Parsons, the school was officially renamed Parsons School of Design. In 1970, Parsons School of Design merged with the New School and further developed and expanded with the resources of the New School.
