Introduction and Overview: Pfeiffer University is a comprehensive private university associated with the United Methodist Church. The school has three campuses, with the main campus located in Misenheimer, North Carolina, covering 330 acres of lush woods and beautiful environment. In addition, there are campuses in Charlotte and Albemarle. History and Founding Time: The school originated from a family school opened by Emily Prudden in the late 19th century. It started in 1885 and was originally named Oberlin, named after French priest John Frederick Oberlin. In 1907, the school moved to Lenore due to a fire, and then moved to its current Misenheimer in 1910. It began offering college courses in 1928 and was officially renamed Pfeiffer Junior College in 1934. It began offering undergraduate courses in the 1950s, and the four-year Pfeiffer College was accredited in 1960. A satellite campus was opened in Charlotte in 1977. In 1996, the school board voted to reorganize into a university and changed its name to Pfeiffer University.
