Shawnee State University is a public comprehensive university in Portsmouth, Ohio, USA. It was founded in 1986 and is the southernmost member of the Ohio University System. The campus covers an area of 62 acres, about 250,000 square meters.
History
Its roots can be traced back to 1945, when Ohio University established an academic center in Portsmouth. In 1985, Ohio House Speaker Vern Reeve proposed the creation of Shawnee State University. In 1986, the proposal was passed by legislation and signed into law by the governor.
