History and Founding

The school was created by the North Carolina State Legislature in 1999, replacing Anson Community College and the United Technical Education Center, and its roots can be traced back to 1962. In 1962, the Ansonville Branch of the Charlotte Industrial Education Center was established, and the name was changed to Anson Technical College in 1967, and then to Anson Technical University in 1979, and then to Anson Community College in 1987. In 1999, Anson Community College and the United Technical Education Center were abolished, and South Piedmont Community College came into being.
