History and Establishment
Established in 1964, the North Carolina State Board of Education approved the operation of the Tri-County Industrial Education Center in 1964, the Cherokee County Board of Education negotiated and reached a lease agreement for the college to rent the abandoned Cherokee County Prison Camp in 1965, the three buildings on the Murphy campus were renovated and constructed in the 1970s, the North Carolina State Legislature allocated funds to build a new multi-purpose building in 1984, the new multi-purpose building Enloe Building was completed in 1989, and the Graham County Center was funded through a statewide bond referendum in 1993, land and buildings were provided for the Graham County Center in 1995, and the Graham County Center opened in 1998.
