History

Establishment time: It was established in Vermilion in 1862 by the Dakota Territorial Legislature. It is the earliest higher education institution in Dakota.

Development process: The first academic unit, the College of Arts and Sciences, was established in 1883. Law courses were offered in 1901. The medical school was opened in 1907. Continuing education was carried out in 1916. The graduate school and business school were established in 1927. The Academy of Fine Arts was established in 1931.
