Later, the board of directors changed the name of the school to Washington College in 1813 to express gratitude to Washington.

The other is General Robert Edward Lee, a famous Southern general during the Civil War. In 1865, after the end of the Civil War, General Lee accepted the position of dean of the college. During his five years in office, he carried out a series of reforms and innovations in the school, which greatly developed the school. After General Lee died in 1870, the school name was changed to Washington and Lee University.
