History:

The school was founded in 1821 as the "Bullock School for Boys" by John Bullock in Wilmington, Delaware.

After several name changes and relocations, it moved to West Chester, Pennsylvania in 1862 and moved to Chester in 1865.

Since 1892, the school has been known as the Pennsylvania Military College. Master's degree programs began in 1966, and in 1972 it was officially renamed Widener University in honor of Eleanor Elkins Widener, the mother of Fitz Eugene Dixon Jr.
