Introduction and Overview

Wilson Community College is a public community college located in Wilson, North Carolina, United States. It was founded in 1958 and is one of the oldest institutions in the North Carolina Community College System. The school offers more than 70 degree, diploma and certificate programs, and serves nearly 7,000 people each year through courses, training and seminars, including high school students, traditional college students, continuing education students, etc.

History

The school was established in 1958 as the Wilson Industrial Education Center. In 1964, the State Board of Education granted it the authority to award the Associate of Applied Science degree and changed its name to Wilson County Technical College. In 1969, the college was accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. In 1989, it was officially renamed Wilson Technical Community College. In 1993, the Department of Community Colleges granted the college the authority to award the Associate of Arts degree. In 1997, the college changed from the quarter system to the semester system. In 2007, the college was officially renamed Wilson Community College.
