Introduction

The University of Szeged is a large national research university in Hungary. It is located in Szeged, the third largest city in Hungary, in the Csongrad County of the Southern Great Plain. It is one of the most important universities in Hungary and one of the most prominent higher education institutions in Central Europe.

History and establishment time

The origin of the University of Szeged can be traced back to 1581, when a Catholic university was established under the efforts of Stefan Batory, Grand Duke of Lithuania and King of Poland. The Cluj Academy, consisting of two faculties, the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Theology, became a famous university in a short period of time and was the only higher education institution in Hungary at that time.

In 1775, Maria-Theresa commissioned Piar to reorganize the academy and established the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, which later became the basis of the Royal University founded by Franz Joseph I in 1872.

In 1921, the university moved to Szeged and began to operate under the name of the University of Szeged.

In 2000, Attila Jurov University, Szent-Gyorgy Albert Medical University, Juhas Gyula Teachers College, the Faculty of Food Industry of the (Szeged) University of Horticulture and Food Industry, and the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Debrecen joined, and the new University of Szeged was officially established.

College of Agriculture: Located in Hodmezeva, a small town 25 kilometers away from the center of the University of Szeged, its agricultural training has a history of more than 110 years. Education and research work consists of three institutes: the Institute of Animal Science and Wildlife Management, the Institute of Economics and Rural Development, and the Institute of Plant Science and Environmental Protection.
