Introduction

The Medical University of Innsbruck (German: Medizinische Universität Innsbruck) is a public medical university in Austria, located in Innsbruck, Tyrol, and is the largest teaching and research institution in western Austria.

Establishment: It was officially rebuilt as an independent university on January 1, 2004, but its medical tradition can be traced back to the first hospital established in the nearby silver mining city of Schwarz in 1307. In 1669, the University of Innsbruck was founded by Emperor Leopold I, and the Department of Medicine at that time was one of its original four faculties.

Development history: After the promulgation of the University Law in 2002, the Medical School of the University of Innsbruck officially became independent as the Medical University of Innsbruck in 2004. The school has trained three Nobel Prize winners in Chemistry, namely Fritz Pregel in 1923, Adolf Windaus in 1928 and Hans Fischer in 1930.
