Introduction

The Medical University of Graz (German: Medizinische Universität Graz) is a public medical university located in Graz, the second largest city in Austria and the capital of Styria.

History

Founding: The school was officially established on January 1, 2004, but can be traced back to 1863, when the University of Graz Medical School was founded by Emperor Franz Joseph I, and medical education has been provided here since 1782.

Development history: In 1912, the University Hospital of Graz, one of the largest hospitals in Europe, was established. After the University Act of 2002, the Medical University of Graz became an independent university in 2004. Its university library was part of the library of the University of Graz before the separation of the two universities. At the founding congress, the Faculty of Medicine was transformed into the Medical University and the first Rector, Gerhard Franz Walter, was elected.
