Introduction

Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno is a comprehensive public university located in Grodno, Belarus. It is one of the largest regional higher education institutions in Belarus and a classical university recognized by the international community.

History and establishment time

On February 22, 1940, according to the Decree No. 209 of the Council of People's Commissars of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic "On Measures for Organizing Public Education in the Western Region of Belarus", the Grodno Teachers' College was established, with two departments: Belarusian Language and Literature, Russian Language and Literature, and Physics and Mathematics, aiming to train teachers for incomplete secondary schools in grades 5-7.

In 1941, due to the invasion of German fascism, the development of the school was interrupted, the equipment and classrooms were destroyed, and the library collection was burned.

In 1944, the school resumed teaching and was reorganized into a teacher training college with three colleges (College of Physics and Mathematics, College of Literature and Foreign Languages).

In 1957 In 1967, the college was renamed Yanka Kupala Teachers College.

In 1967, the college held its first doctoral thesis defense, and began to recruit graduate students in 1969.

On May 1, 1978, Yanka Kupala Teachers College was officially reorganized into Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno.
