The Air Force Engineering University is located in the ancient capital of Xi'an. The university was established in 1999 by merging the former Air Force Engineering College, the Air Force Missile College and the Air Force Telecommunications Engineering College. All three colleges have a history of more than 60 years. After three adjustments and reforms, in July 2017, the new Air Force Engineering University was established based on the former Air Force Engineering University and the First Air Force Aviation College. It mainly undertakes the training of composite command and technical officers in the fields of air combat service, aerospace defense, information confrontation, air traffic control, air combat command and control, and unmanned combat. The university has seven colleges (schools) including the Aviation Engineering College, the Air Defense and Anti-Missile College, the Information and Navigation College, the Air Traffic Control and Navigation College, the Equipment Management and UAV Engineering College, the Graduate School, and the Aviation Maintenance Officer School, as well as two teaching and research units, the Basic Department and the Military and Political Basic Department. The university has a total of 5 campuses, spanning two provinces and three cities (Xi'an and Xianyang in Shaanxi Province, and Xinyang in Henan Province), and the entire school covers an area of more than 10,000 acres. The university currently has five disciplines, namely engineering, military, science, management and liberal arts, 7 postdoctoral research stations, 11 first-level doctoral degree authorization points, 17 first-level master's degree authorization points, 8 professional degree categories with a total of 20 professional degree authorization fields, and 38 undergraduate majors (directions), forming a new discipline system that integrates combat command, training management, technical support, and equipment operation and maintenance, and has distinctive characteristics of integrated engineering, military management, and science, technology and combat integration. The undergraduate training tasks undertaken by the university account for more than 65% of the ground-growing cadres of the Air Force, the number of master's degree students trained accounts for more than 45% of the total number of Air Force colleges and universities, and the number of doctoral students accounts for more than 50%. It has 2 national key disciplines, 5 military key disciplines, 7 military "double" construction disciplines and majors, 6 key construction fields of the Air Force aerospace disciplines, 1 Shaanxi Province "double first-class" construction discipline, and 8 Shaanxi Province first-class undergraduate construction majors. It has 3 national key laboratories, 6 military key laboratories, 2 Shaanxi Provincial Key Laboratories and 3 national experimental teaching demonstration centers. Since its establishment, the university has always focused on the fundamental mission of talent training, actively played the role of the source of high-quality and professional new military talents in the Air Force, the role of a key incubator for new domains and new qualities of talents, the role of a highland for the research and development of aerospace combat theories and weapons and equipment technology, and the role of a service base for the construction of Air Force combat capabilities and solving combat training problems of troops. It has trained and sent more than 160,000 outstanding officers for the military, of which 2 have grown into academicians and more than 160 have grown into generals. It has won more than 1,100 national, military and provincial (ministerial) teaching and scientific research achievement awards. It has more than 200 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, national teaching masters, young Yangtze River scholars, national model teachers, national excellent teachers of the whole army and provincial teaching masters, national candidates of the Hundred Thousand Talents Project, candidates of the National Special Branch Plan, national outstanding young people, outstanding young people of national defense, "Qiushi" Award, military "Yucai" Award, recipients of special government allowances, and candidates of the high-level scientific and technological innovation talent project of the military, more than 300 Air Force-level experts and high-level scientific and technological talents, and many innovative teams such as "National Youth Science and Technology Innovation Group", "Advanced Unit of Science and Technology Work of the Whole Army" and "Military Science and Technology Innovation Group" have emerged.
