Altay Vocational and Technical College is a public higher vocational college under the guidance of the Education Department of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and organized by the Altay Regional Administrative Office. It was approved by the People's Government of the Autonomous Region in April 2019, and was registered by the Ministry of Education of China in May 2019. The first batch of students was enrolled in September of the same year. The college is located in the Altay Regional Vocational Education Park, No. 106 Yingbin Road, Altay City, Xinjiang, covering an area of 1,056 acres and a building area of 226,000 square meters. Altay Vocational and Technical College has four teaching branches: the School of Marxism, the School of Ice and Snow, the School of Tourism, and the School of Rural Revitalization. It is a higher vocational college with distinctive characteristics of ice and snow and tourism. The college closely focuses on the development of the eight major industrial clusters in the autonomous region and the five characteristic and advantageous industries of "green mining, big tourism, big health, big agriculture, and clean energy" in the region. It has opened tourism management, hotel management and digital operation, animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, leisure agriculture operation and management, song and dance performance, automobile application and maintenance technology, sports training (ice and snow direction), preschool education, environmental engineering technology, leisure sports, food intelligent processing technology, nursing, ice and snow sports and management, ice and snow facilities operation and management, sports art performance (ice and snow direction), electrical automation technology, sports protection (ice and snow direction), traditional Chinese medicine rehabilitation technology, mechatronics technology (mine mechatronics direction), big data and financial management and other 20 three-year majors, sports training (five-year integrated system) and tourism management (3+2) two five-year majors. Among them, the ice and snow professional group was selected into the second batch of backbone professional group construction projects of higher vocational schools in the autonomous region in 2022. The college has close cooperation with Kanas Scenic Area, Keketuohai Scenic Area, Altai Tourism Development Group Co., Ltd., Wangyuan Camel Milk, Jimunai Wantuo Garden, Zijin Mining, Kalatongke Copper-Nickel Mine and other enterprises; and has established long-term and stable cooperative relations with Jiangjunshan Ski Resort, Keketuohai International Ski Resort, Silk Road International Ski Resort, Xiyu Ski Resort and other enterprises in student internships, venue cooperation and skills training. At the same time, a number of on-campus training bases with advanced equipment and functions of teaching, production, training, technical services, and vocational skills appraisal have been built, including freestyle skiing training room, ice and snow physical training room, simulation ice rink, simulation snow equipment hall, infant care training room, calligraphy and painting training room, dance training room, piano training room, automotive electrical system comprehensive training room, etiquette training room, tea art training room, guest room training room and other 29 training rooms. The college adheres to the teaching style of "establishing morality and cultivating people, teaching well and seeking truth" and is committed to building an excellent teaching team. There are 305 faculty and staff members and 281 full-time teachers. A group of famous teachers and scholars, including Shan Zhaojian, the father of Chinese skiing, and Guo Dandan, the first world champion in Chinese skiing history, were hired as visiting professors. In accordance with relevant regulations, the college has set up a "green channel", national student loans, national grants, national inspirational scholarships, national scholarships, work-study programs, direct recruitment of non-commissioned officers, national grants for compulsory military service, tuition subsidies for retired soldiers, national grants for grassroots employment, inspirational scholarships of the Autonomous Region People's Government, grants from the Autonomous Region People's Government, college food subsidies, college grants and other financial aid policies to help students from families with financial difficulties complete their studies smoothly. The college adheres to the "employment and entrepreneurship" orientation to help graduates find high-quality employment. In 2023, the initial employment rate of college graduates was 93.99%, the employment rate of enterprises above designated size was 79.2%, and 56.8% of graduates were employed locally in Altay. The employment rate is on the rise, and the quality of employment is steadily improving.
