Anhui University of Science and Technology is a high-level university with distinctive features that is key to the construction of Anhui Province. It is a university jointly built by Anhui Province and the Ministry of Emergency Management of the People's Republic of China. It is a university supported by the National Basic Capacity Construction Project for Colleges and Universities in the Central and Western Regions, and a university implementing the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education. The Huainan campus of the school covers an area of about 3,200 acres, and the Hefei campus covers an area of 340 acres. The school was founded in 1945 and has the same roots as Hefei University of Technology. It is the first engineering university in Anhui Province. In 1955, the school was upgraded from Huainan Coal Mine Industrial College to Hefei Mining College. In 1956, it moved to Hefei. In 1958, it was renamed Hefei University of Technology. In 1971, coal-related disciplines and majors, some basic course teachers, etc. were moved to Huainan as a whole, and Huainan Coal College was established. After that, it went through the school periods of Huainan Mining College and Huainan Industrial College. During this period, the former East China Coal Medical College and Huainan Chemical Engineering School were successively incorporated. In 2002, the school was renamed Anhui University of Science and Technology. In 2022, Anhui Automotive Industry School was merged. The school has a high-level teaching staff with a combination of full-time and part-time teachers and a reasonable structure. There are more than 4,500 faculty and staff in the school (including directly affiliated hospitals), more than 1,000 people with senior professional titles, including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 12 national talents, 34 people enjoying special government allowances from the State Council, more than 80 provincial and ministerial talents, and more than 400 high-level experts and scholars serving as part-time professors of the school. There are 2 Huang Danian-style teacher teams in national universities, 5 provincial "115" industrial innovation teams, and 8 provincial university leading talent teams. The school has a graduate school, 23 colleges (departments) and a directly affiliated hospital. It has 6 postdoctoral research stations, 6 first-level discipline doctoral programs, 34 second-level discipline doctoral programs; 22 first-level discipline master's programs, 113 second-level discipline master's programs, 11 master's professional degree authorization categories, and 77 undergraduate enrollment majors. It has 1 Anhui Province Class I peak discipline, 5 Class III peak disciplines, and 3 peak cultivation disciplines. In the fifth round of national subject evaluation, the university achieved the highest level among provincial universities, and the discipline of safety science and engineering achieved a breakthrough in the A-level disciplines of provincial universities. A school-running system has been formed with engineering as the main body, safety, advanced manufacturing, mining, blasting, medicine and other disciplines as the characteristics, and coordinated development of engineering, science, medicine, management, literature, economics, law and art. The school currently has more than 33,000 full-time undergraduate students and more than 6,500 doctoral and master's students. It has 20 national first-class professional construction sites, 11 majors certified by the Ministry of Education, 6 national characteristic majors, 4 national professional comprehensive reform pilots, 12 national first-class courses, high-quality courses and other courses, 1 national teaching team, 1 national talent training model innovation experimental zone, 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, and 5 national engineering practice education centers. Focusing on the fundamental task of talent training, the school deepens the reform of education and teaching, and has formed the characteristics of innovative talent training of "solid foundation, emphasis on practice, innovation and high quality". Since its establishment, the university has trained more than 300,000 talents of various types for the country. Five undergraduate alumni, Chen Jing, Lu Bingheng, Peng Suping, Yuan Liang, and Chen Xiangsheng, have been elected as academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The school is a "National College Graduate Employment Skills Training Base", "National First Batch of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Typical Experience Colleges" (50 colleges and universities nationwide), "National First Batch of Demonstration Colleges and Universities for Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform" (99 colleges and universities nationwide), and "National Graduate Employment Typical Experience College"; it has been rated as "National Advanced Collective for Graduate Employment in Ordinary Colleges and Universities" twice; it has been rated as "Anhui Province Advanced Collective for Employment" twice in a row; it has been rated as "Anhui Province Ordinary College Graduate Employment Model Unit" for seven consecutive years. The school is the initiator of the "Challenge Cup" National College Students' Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition. The College Student Robotics Association and the College Student Aircraft Model and Technology Practice Association were selected as the "Xiaoping Science and Technology Innovation Team", and many students were awarded the "China Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award" and "National College Student Self-improvement Star" and other honorary titles. The school closely carries out scientific research and technical services around the needs of the economy and society, and initiates the establishment of the "Coal Safety, Intelligent and Precision Mining Collaborative Innovation Organization" in the coal industry. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, the school has undertaken more than 2,300 scientific research projects of various types, including more than 230 national projects such as the development of major national scientific research instruments, national key research and development plans, bases and talent plans of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation, and the National Social Science Foundation, with an average annual research funding of 220 million yuan; it has won 150 scientific and technological achievement awards from the Ministry of Education, Anhui Province, and national industry associations, including 31 provincial and ministerial first prizes, 1 National Innovation Award, 1 China Patent Award, and 1 Anhui Patent Gold Award; it has authorized more than 1,400 domestic invention patents and international invention patents. The school's national key laboratory was awarded the title of "National Advanced Collective of Professional and Technical Talents". The school has 49 national and provincial research and innovation platforms, including the National Key Laboratory of Deep Coal Safe Mining and Environmental Protection, the National Key Laboratory of Deep Coal Mine Mining Response and Disaster Prevention and Control, the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Coal Safe and Precision Mining, the National Demonstration Base for Innovative Talent Training, the Provincial and Ministerial Cooperative Innovation Center for Mining Intelligent Technology and Equipment, and the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Industrial Dust Prevention and Control and Occupational Safety and Health. The university adheres to the principle of open education and has established strategic cooperative relations with more than 150 units including local governments, large state-owned enterprises, and well-known universities. It has successively established the Institute of Environmentally Friendly Materials and Occupational Health (Wuhu), the Institute of Energy Revolution Engineering Technology (Jincheng), and the Institute of Advanced Studies (Hefei). It actively integrates into the Hefei Comprehensive National Science Center, takes the lead in the construction of the Clean and Efficient Utilization of Coal Research Center and the Deep Earth Research Center of the Energy Research Institute, jointly builds the Joint Research Center for Occupational Medicine and Health of the Big Health Research Institute, and participates in the construction of the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute and the Environmental Research Institute. The school continues to expand international cooperation and exchanges, and has established long-term and stable international cooperation relations with more than 60 universities and research institutions in the United States, Britain, Germany, France, Australia, Poland, Japan, Russia, Ukraine, Pakistan, Singapore, South Korea and other countries. There are international students from 29 countries studying for doctoral and master's degrees at the school.
