Anhui University of Technology is located in Ma'anshan City, Anhui Province, a national civilized city adjacent to Nanjing in the Yangtze River Delta. The predecessor of the school was Ma'anshan Iron and Steel Industrial School, which was founded in 1958. In 1977, it was approved by the State Council to establish Ma'anshan Iron and Steel Institute, which was affiliated to the former Ministry of Metallurgical Industry. In 1985, it was renamed East China Metallurgical Institute. In 1998, it was transferred to Anhui Province and implemented a management system of "co-construction by the central and local governments, with Anhui Province as the main management". In 2000, with the approval of the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Anhui Province, East China Metallurgical Institute and Anhui Commercial College merged to form Anhui University of Technology. Over the past 65 years since its establishment, the university has carried forward the fine tradition of "high standards and strict requirements", inherited the fine school spirit of "unity, truth-seeking, diligence and innovation", forged the school motto of "fine craftsmanship, erudition, virtue and agility", accumulated the university culture of "serving the country with sincerity, serving the people, pursuing truth, advocating science and technology, selfless dedication and striving for first-class", and embarked on a characteristic development path of "focusing on engineering, serving the industry, integrating into the local area, and innovative development". It has now become a multidisciplinary university with distinct industry characteristics, focusing on engineering, with coordinated development of seven major disciplines of engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law and art. It is a university supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Anhui Provincial Government, a university implementing the national "Education Power Promotion Project", the first batch of national demonstration universities for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform, the top 50 universities with typical experience in innovation and entrepreneurship, the Ministry of Education's "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" implementing universities, and Anhui Province's local characteristic high-level university construction universities. The school has the qualifications to recruit overseas students, recommend graduate students without examination, and confer bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. The university covers an area of 2531.31 acres, with two campuses, Jiashan and Xiushan, with a building area of 840,300 square meters, a total value of 673 million yuan for teaching and research equipment, a collection of more than 2.38 million paper books, 140 available databases, and more than 3.09 million electronic books. There are 13 national first-class undergraduate courses, 54 national and provincial first-class undergraduate major construction points, including 20 national first-class undergraduate major construction points, 6 national characteristic majors and comprehensive reform pilot majors, and 47 provincial characteristic (brand), comprehensive reform pilot, and revitalization plan majors. 15 majors have passed the engineering education professional certification (assessment) of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, ranking first among provincial universities and 54th among universities nationwide. The three disciplines of materials science, engineering, and chemistry continue to maintain the top 1% of the global ESI ranking. Among them, materials science and engineering are in the top 5‰ in the world. Materials science and engineering, metallurgical engineering, and chemistry are selected as peak disciplines in Anhui Province. Nanoscience and engineering, materials and chemical engineering, resources and environment, and electronic information are approved as provincial peak cultivation disciplines. Five disciplines have been upgraded in the new round of discipline evaluation. The school ranks 198th in the ESI ranking of Chinese mainland universities in 2023. There are 33 scientific research platforms at or above the provincial and ministerial levels. The "Intelligent Equipment Manufacturing for Special Service Environments" platform has been approved as an international science and technology cooperation base by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The ISO-TC107/SC9PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition Coating) International Standard Subcommittee was approved to be established. There are 2,219 faculty members, including 219 senior professional titles and 500 associate senior professional titles. There are 880 faculty members with doctoral degrees, including 856 teachers with doctoral degrees (accounting for 61.85% of the total number of full-time teachers), 23 national talents of various types, and 152 provincial talents. In the past three years, 7 people from three disciplines of the school have been selected into the global "Highly Cited Scientists" list, ranking first among provincial universities. College students' innovation and entrepreneurship education has entered the first echelon in the country, and the social competitiveness of graduates has been continuously enhanced. Integrating innovation and entrepreneurship education into the talent training program, the "three-step method" of "cultivating innovation awareness, stimulating creative potential, and experiencing the innovation process" has been created, and won the second prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award. Since the 14th Five-Year Plan, college students have won 45 international awards, 1,043 national awards, and 2,545 provincial awards in various subject competitions. The Golden Eagle Innovation and Entrepreneurship Team was selected as the first batch of national college students' "Xiaoping Science and Technology Innovation Team", and 1 innovation and entrepreneurship model was named "China College Student of the Year", and won 2 China Youth Science and Technology Innovation Awards. Actively serving the country's major strategies and the construction of "three places and one district" in Anhui Province, in the past five years, it has led the formulation of 10 international standards, added 319 national scientific research projects, won 85 provincial and ministerial scientific and technological achievement awards, authorized 1,375 invention patents, and transferred and transformed 321 patent results. From 2019 to 2021, it ranked first among provincial universities in the top 100 invention patents in Anhui Province for three consecutive years.
