The predecessor of Anhui University of Chinese Medicine was the Anhui Provincial TCM Continuing Education Class founded in 1952. In 1959, the People's Government of Anhui Province approved the establishment of Anhui College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2011, Anhui Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine was established on the basis of Anhui College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2013, the Ministry of Education agreed to rename Anhui College of Traditional Chinese Medicine to Anhui University of Chinese Medicine. In 2014, it was approved as a local characteristic high-level university construction unit in Anhui Province. In 2023, it was listed as a key university for the creation of "Double First-Class" in Anhui Province. The school is a national clinical research base for traditional Chinese medicine, a national international cooperation base for traditional Chinese medicine, a doctoral authorization unit, and a master's degree recommendation unit for exemption from examination. The school currently has four campuses in Shaoquan Lake, Meishan Road, Shihe Road, and Lu'an Road, 17 secondary colleges, 32 undergraduate majors, nearly 20,000 full-time students, more than 4,000 faculty and staff, including more than 900 associate senior or higher professional titles. The school has a group of high-level teachers, including national medical masters, national outstanding young scientists, Qihuang scholars, national famous Chinese medicine doctors, national Huang Danian-style teacher teams, national traditional Chinese medicine colleges and universities teaching masters, 2 national teaching teams, 33 provincial teaching teams, etc. In 2022, Wang Qi, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a national medical master, was appointed as the honorary president of our school. The school currently has 6 national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 14 national first-class undergraduate courses, 2 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 1 national TCM clinical teaching and training demonstration center, 1 national professional comprehensive reform pilot project, and 2 national excellent doctors (TCM) education and training programs. It has 3 first-level disciplines and 1 doctoral professional degree authorization point, 6 first-level disciplines, 26 second-level disciplines and 4 master's professional degree authorization points, 3 postdoctoral mobile workstations, 6 high-level TCM key disciplines of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 17 key disciplines, 2 disciplines in the top 1% of the ESI global ranking, 1 peak discipline of Class II and Class III in Anhui Province, and 13 key disciplines in Anhui Province. There are 1 national regional medical center of traditional Chinese medicine, 3 national regional traditional Chinese medicine (specialty) diagnosis and treatment centers, 9 national key clinical specialties, and 23 key specialties of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Over the past 60 years, the school has sent more than 60,000 outstanding graduates to the country and the local area, and the average employment rate of graduates in the past five years is 94%. The school actively explores the reform of talent training mode, "Construction and practice of high-quality applied pharmaceutical talent training system in local traditional Chinese medicine colleges" and "Research and practice of cultivating traditional Chinese medicine talents with Xin'an medical characteristics by combining colleges, apprenticeship and regional medical education" respectively won the second prize of national teaching achievements. As the main unit, it participated in "Leading global traditional Chinese medicine education with standards-the creation and practice of traditional Chinese medicine education standards" and won the first prize of national teaching achievements. The school won 8 first prizes in national A-level competitions, and won the honorary titles of excellent unit of national college and technical secondary school student volunteer summer "three going to the countryside" social practice, national Red Cross model unit, national "colorful holiday" volunteer service demonstration unit, and national college student annual figure nomination award. The university has vigorously promoted the strategy of strengthening the university through science and technology. In the past five years, it has undertaken nearly 2,000 scientific research projects at all levels, including nearly 200 national projects; won 68 scientific and technological awards at the provincial and ministerial levels, including 1 second prize of the National Science and Technology Award and 8 first prizes at the provincial and ministerial levels; and built more than 50 industry-university-research cooperation bases. It has won titles and honors such as "National Advanced Collective of Science and Technology Special Envoys", "Advanced Collective of Science and Technology Management of Traditional Chinese Medicine", and "Special Contribution Award for Promoting the Academic Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine". The university focuses on improving the level of medical services, and has built 3 directly affiliated hospitals, 8 non-directly affiliated hospitals and the National Medical Hall Clinic. The First Affiliated Hospital is the largest Class III Class A comprehensive traditional Chinese medicine hospital in the province; the Second Affiliated Hospital is the first and largest Class III Class A acupuncture specialist hospital in the country; in 2023, it was awarded the first national regional medical center of traditional Chinese medicine in Anhui Province-Anhui Hospital of Shuguang Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The university actively responded to the national "Belt and Road" initiative and established friendly cooperative relations with more than 40 medical and educational institutions in more than 20 countries and regions. The Athens Traditional Chinese Medicine Center of Anhui University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was established in Greece. Students from more than 10 countries and regions have come to the school to study for doctoral, master's and bachelor's degrees and to participate in short-term and medium-term training. At present, the school takes the construction of "Double First-Class" as a starting point, takes TCM as the main body, and coordinates the coordinated development of TCM with science, engineering, management, economics, and literature, and builds a complete cross-integration, mutual support, coordinated development, and distinctive discipline and professional system, and strives to build a local high-level university with distinctive TCM characteristics that is strong in China, high-level in the province, and influential in the industry, and make greater contributions to building a modern and beautiful Anhui, serving the health of the people, and building a healthy China.
