The Armored Forces Engineering Academy is located on the bank of the scenic Marco Polo Bridge in Beijing. It is a national key engineering college and one of the twelve comprehensive colleges in the whole army. The predecessor of the college was the Armored Forces Engineering Department of the Harbin Military Engineering College. In 1961, it was expanded into the Armored Forces Engineering Academy in Xi'an and moved to the capital Beijing in 1969. It is the highest institution of learning for our army to train engineering and technical officers and command officers of armored mechanized forces. The college covers an area of more than 3,700 acres, has a modern library and electronic reading room, and has established online retrieval with large library and information centers such as the Internet, Beijing Library and the headquarters science and technology information institute. There are nearly 200 laboratories, training rooms and 7 large professional training grounds. The first campus network supported by Gigabit Ethernet in the whole army has been built, and students can connect to the Internet through the campus network. Starting from undergraduate education, the college trains students at three levels: undergraduate, master and doctoral students, and trains military and local two-way selected students and foreign military students. It mainly trains command officers of armored mechanized forces and various engineering and technical officers with military commander qualities for the whole army. The training mode is divided into two categories: a 4-year engineering undergraduate program and a 5-year dual-bachelor undergraduate program. The college currently has 9 undergraduate majors, 15 master's programs, and 3 doctoral programs. It is one of the very few colleges in the entire army that can grant master's degrees in five disciplines: engineering, science, management, military science, and philosophy. The college has a high-quality and high-level teaching staff. Among this team, 228 people have senior professional and technical positions, and 310 people have doctoral and master's degrees, accounting for 58%. Among them, there is 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 3 national outstanding teachers, 9 outstanding teachers of the whole army, 17 doctoral supervisors, and 3 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions in the country. In accordance with the general requirements of "political qualification, military excellence, good style, strict discipline, and strong support", the college focuses on improving teaching quality and continuously optimizing the teaching environment. In recent years, in the mathematics, physics, English and other subject competitions of ordinary colleges and universities in Beijing, our college's participating students have achieved excellent results. Over the past 40 years, the college has trained nearly 20,000 engineering and technical officers and command officers for our army's armored mechanized forces. These graduates have become the backbone of our army's armored mechanized forces' modernization construction.
