Baicheng Medical College was founded in 1958 and was then affiliated to the Provincial Health Department. In 1962, it was decentralized to the local government and adjusted to a secondary technical school. Since 1985, it has successively carried out joint school-running with three universities including the former Bethune Medical University. In 1998 and 1999, it was successively promoted to a provincial and ministerial key school and a national key demonstration school. In 2001, it co-founded Jilin University Baicheng Medical College with Jilin University. In 2002, Baicheng Grain School was merged into it. In 2004, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to resume its status as a college. In June of the same year, the former Baicheng Railway Hospital was assigned to the school as an affiliated hospital. In December 2011, it was approved by the provincial government to be transferred to provincial management, becoming the only provincial medical college in the western part of Jilin and the southern foothills of the Greater Khingan Range. The school has 14 colleges, including the School of Nursing, School of Stomatology, School of Medical Technology, School of Clinical Medicine, School of Pharmacy, School of Rehabilitation Medicine, School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, School of Optometry, School of Medical Cosmetology, School of Basic Medicine, School of Public Education, School of Marxism, School of Informatization, and School of Continuing Education. It offers 27 majors, including clinical medicine, preventive medicine, stomatology, traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture and massage, nursing, midwifery, pharmacy, Chinese medicine, medical laboratory technology, medical imaging technology, rehabilitation therapy technology, optometry technology, and medical cosmetology technology. The school recruits students from 25 provinces (municipalities, and autonomous regions) across the country. Since its establishment 65 years ago, it has trained and supplied nearly 70,000 medical and health talents to the society, and its graduates are highly satisfied by employers. In 2021, the school party committee proposed the overall goal of "one creation and three constructions", and started a new journey to fully apply for the construction of a medical undergraduate university. The school has successively won the honors of Provincial Advanced Unit for Spiritual Civilization Construction, Provincial Advanced Unit for Spiritual Civilization Co-construction by the Military (Police) and Civilians, Provincial Garden-style School, Green Ecological Campus, Model Worker Collective of Jilin Province, Advanced Collective for Pioneering and Excellence Activities in the Education System, Civilized Unit of Jilin Province, and Advanced Unit for Admissions Work in the Province. In 2016, it was named the First Huang Yanpei Excellent Vocational Education School in Jilin Province. In 2017, it was approved as a national-level experimental school for the construction of digital campuses in vocational colleges. In 2018, it was awarded the Modern Apprenticeship Pilot School for Higher Vocational Colleges and Advanced Unit for Higher Education and Scientific Research in Jilin Province. In 2019, it was awarded the first batch of provincial party building demonstration colleges, Jilin Province Modern Vocational Education Reform and Development Demonstration School, Jilin Province "Three-dimensional Education" Comprehensive Reform Pilot College, and China Vocational Education Society Reform and Innovation Experimental School. In 2020, it won the national "Model Workers' Home" and was approved as a provincial "Double High" school. In July 2021, it was awarded the title of "Advanced Grassroots Party Organization in Jilin Province", and it is the only higher vocational college in the province to have won this title. In 2022, the school was named a civilized campus in Jilin Province and an advanced unit in the creation of a national civilized campus.
