Baotou Vocational and Technical College is located in the hinterland of the Yellow River Economic Belt, Baotou, the "Grassland Steel City" and the "Rare Earth Capital". It is a full-time public higher vocational college, a national demonstrative higher vocational college, a national high-quality junior college, a national high-skilled talent training base, and a national production-education integration development planning project construction college. The school was founded in 1956. Its predecessor was the National Key Technical Secondary School Baotou Mechanical Industry School. It is one of the earliest military colleges established in New China. In 1994, it was selected as one of the first 10 pilot schools for five-year higher vocational education after junior high school in the country. In 1998, the school was upgraded to a college and became one of the earliest 14 independent higher vocational and technical colleges in the country. In 2019 and 2022, the Baotou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Federation of Trade Unions successively awarded plaques to the school and established Baotou Craftsman College and Inner Mongolia Craftsman College. Over the past 68 years since its establishment, the university has always resonated with the destiny of the motherland and has been closely linked to the economic and social development of the region. It has formed a distinctive feature of cultivating craftsman-type talents, and has trained and supplied more than 80,000 technical and skilled talents for the society. A large number of new-era craftsmen such as national-level skill masters, national technical experts, and "Northern Xinjiang craftsmen" have emerged, and it is known as the "cradle of craftsmen on the grassland". The school covers an area of 889 acres, with two campuses, Jianhua and Huda, and has 11 teaching departments including the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Electrical Engineering. There are 10,728 full-time students and a total value of fixed assets of 735 million yuan. There are currently 43 enrollment majors, which have basically formed a professional structure with mechanical design and manufacturing majors as traditional advantages and characteristics, rare earth new material processing and wind and solar new energy majors as new growth points, and vehicle engineering, information technology, finance, culture and tourism, and health care majors as supplements. It has 6 national key majors, 4 autonomous region key majors, 17 autonomous region brand majors, 2 national mechanical industry skilled talent training specialty majors, 3 national mechanical industry high-quality skilled talent training innovation construction pilot majors, and 6 majors for undergraduate trials. The school adheres to the strategy of strengthening the school with talents. There are 749 faculty and staff, including 601 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, "dual-qualified" teachers account for 77.3%, teachers with master's degrees or above account for 74.54%, there are 19 doctors and 49 doctoral students, 50 teachers with senior professional titles (4 second-level professors, 4 third-level professors), 178 teachers with associate senior professional titles, and 3 teachers enjoying special allowances from the State Council; 8 national ideological and political teaching teachers, 26 autonomous region-level teaching masters and newcomers, 1 national most beautiful teacher, 1 national 10,000-person plan teaching master, 1 national Huang Yanpei outstanding vocational education teacher, and 1 most beautiful teacher in the autonomous region; 1 expert with outstanding contributions to the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, 4 grassland talents in the autonomous region, 1 northern Xinjiang craftsman, 13 Lucheng talents, 1 Baotou craftsman, 39 model workers at or above the municipal level and May 1st Labor Medal winners (2 at the national level), and 34 technical experts at or above the municipal level (4 at the national level). It has 8 master and famous teacher studios at or above the autonomous region level (1 at the national level), 1 Huang Danian-style teacher team in national universities, 1 national curriculum ideological and political demonstration teaching team, 15 excellent teaching teams at the autonomous region level, 1 autonomous region grassland talent project team, and 1 autonomous region's first batch of vocational education teacher teaching innovation team. The school deepens teaching reform and creates a highland for talent training. There are 3 national online boutique courses, 11 autonomous region boutique online open courses, 24 autonomous region boutique courses, and 1 national curriculum ideological and political demonstration course. 2 textbooks won the second prize of the first national excellent textbook construction, 12 textbooks were selected as the "14th Five-Year Plan" national planning textbooks for vocational education, and 7 textbooks were selected as provincial planning textbooks. In the past three years, it has won 4 first prizes and 2 second prizes for vocational education teaching achievements in the autonomous region. Teachers have won 13 national awards in the teaching ability competition of the National Vocational College Skills Competition, and the total number of awards in 2019 ranked first among higher vocational colleges in the country. In the past five years, students have won a total of 119 awards in vocational skills competitions at the provincial and ministerial levels or above; 14 national awards and 232 provincial and ministerial awards in college student innovation and entrepreneurship competitions such as "Internet+" and "Challenge Cup", and the first employment rate of graduates has always remained above 95%. It has taken the lead in building the autonomous region-level rare earth high-tech and equipment manufacturing city-level industry-education consortium, the Inner Mongolia Ordnance Industry Industry-Education Integration Community, and is taking the lead in preparing for the establishment of a national-level ordnance industry industry-education integration community. It has established stable cooperative relations with 354 large and medium-sized enterprises, led the establishment of 7 school-enterprise cooperation alliances such as the autonomous region's first photovoltaic energy industry-education alliance, and co-built 8 industrial colleges such as Meike Silicon Energy and Tianjin Shengna Automobile with enterprises. 24 majors carry out modern apprenticeship and order class talent training, 32 majors carry out "1+X" certificate pilot, and 43 majors. The college was elected as the executive director unit of the National Rural Revitalization Industry-Education Integration Alliance. It was rated as an excellent vocational college for school-enterprise cooperation and talent training in the national machinery industry. The school insists on both education and training to create a well-known brand of social services. There are 170 on-campus training bases and 209 off-campus training bases. It has the only international welding technician training base in the northwest region of the country and the only SAIC Volkswagen SCEP school-enterprise cooperation project training base in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is one of the first national defense science and technology industry vocational education training bases in the country and undertakes the training of national skilled talents in short supply. The school insists on strengthening ideological and political work and cultural inheritance and innovation. It was selected as a typical school case of "three-dimensional education" in vocational colleges. The college's military culture has been identified as the national vocational college "one school and one product" campus culture brand, and the military culture education exhibition hall has been identified as the "Baotou City Patriotism Education Base", and many cultural research results have won national and autonomous region awards.
