School Overview Beijing Industrial Vocational and Technical College is located in Shijingshan District, Beijing. It is a general higher vocational school organized by the Beijing Municipal Government. It is one of the first batch of independent higher vocational colleges and national demonstration higher vocational colleges in the country. The predecessor of the school was Beijing Coal Industry School, which was founded in 1956 and was affiliated to the Ministry of Coal Industry. It began to offer higher vocational education in 1994 and was officially restructured into a vocational and technical college in 1999. The school now has 7 teaching colleges (departments), the School of Continuing Education, and the School of International Education. It has 5 professional groups, covering 8 major categories and 27 majors, forming a unique professional system oriented to the fields of urban construction, operation, management, and services, with engineering majors as the main focus and coordinated development of different categories such as engineering, management, liberal arts, and law. In 2000, the school was identified by the Ministry of Education as one of the first batch of demonstration vocational and technical colleges in the country. In 2002, it was identified as a demonstration college supported by the national financial key construction. In 2003, it was identified as one of the eight excellent colleges in the country in the national first batch of talent training work evaluation of higher vocational colleges. In 2007, it became one of the 100 "national demonstration higher vocational colleges" supported by the state. In 2015, it became one of the first three higher vocational colleges to pilot the Beijing high-end technical and skilled personnel training project. In 2016, it was identified by the Ministry of Education as the first batch of pilot projects for vocational education to "go global". In 2019, it became a construction unit of "characteristic high-level vocational colleges" in Beijing, and in 2019, it was successfully selected as a construction unit of Chinese characteristic high-level higher vocational schools.
