Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology is a fashion university with a deep sense of patriotism and distinctive school characteristics. The predecessor of the school was the Beijing Textile Institute of Technology, which was founded in February 1959. It was renamed Beijing Chemical Fiber Institute in July 1961 and expanded to Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology in February 1987. It is the first public clothing university in my country. In 1998, the school was placed under the management of Beijing. In 2019, it was changed from a science and engineering college to an art college. In 2020, it was clearly defined as a high-level characteristic university in accordance with the classification and development policy of Beijing's universities. The school adheres to the school motto of "walking with beauty" and has unique advantages in theoretical research and application in the fields of clothing and apparel culture, clothing and apparel inheritance and innovative design, new clothing materials and high-performance clothing, product and digital media design, etc., and has gradually formed the school-running characteristics of "focusing on art, leading with clothing, and integrating art and engineering", established the fashion education concept of "standing in the new era and highlighting Chinese beauty", and strengthened the development consensus of "striving for a better life for the people". The school is led by design, supported by engineering, and supported by art and business. It has coordinated development of multiple disciplines including art, engineering, economics, management, and literature. It has 8 secondary colleges, including the School of Fashion Art and Engineering, the School of Fashion Art and Engineering, the School of Materials Design and Engineering, the School of Art and Design, the School of Fashion Communication, the School of Business, the School of Fine Arts, and the School of Arts and Sciences.The professional settings cover the entire textile and clothing industry chain, and the discipline and professional construction level in the field of clothing and apparel is leading in China. The school has more than 7,200 full-time undergraduate, master and doctoral students, including more than 5,800 undergraduates and more than 1,400 master and doctoral students. At present, there are 6 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 1 second-level discipline master's degree authorization point, 7 master's professional degree authorization points, and 1 doctoral talent training program serving national special needs. The school's design was rated as a high-end discipline in Beijing universities in 2019, and design and art design ranked first in the fifth round of discipline evaluation of the Ministry of Education and the national professional degree level evaluation. In 2023, the "Clothing" emerging interdisciplinary platform construction project was approved as the first batch of interdisciplinary platform construction pilot projects in Beijing. The school currently has 24 undergraduate enrollment majors, including 7 national characteristic professional construction points, 14 majors approved by the Ministry of Education's "Double Ten Thousand Plan" national first-class undergraduate professional construction points, and 11 majors approved by the "Double Ten Thousand Plan" provincial first-class undergraduate professional construction points. In the 2023 Soft Science Professional Ranking, it was awarded 5 A+, 5 A, and 7 majors ranked in the top ten. It has built one of the "Top Ten" national characteristic museums-the National Costume Museum, which integrates collection, display, restoration, scientific research, and teaching. It has a number of national experimental teaching demonstration centers, national talent training model innovation experimental areas, and nearly 300 national and Beijing-level off-campus talent training bases, which have cultivated many outstanding talents for the textile, clothing, fashion and cultural and creative industries. The school has a strong atmosphere of innovation and entrepreneurship. The rate of self-employment of graduates has been above 5% for many years. The school has a faculty with firm political convictions, high professional ethics, superb professional skills, and a keen eye on teaching and educating people. Professor JANE RAPLAY, former vice president of the University of the Arts London and former dean of Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, and Professor FRANCES CORNER, former vice president of the University of the Arts London and former dean of London College of Fashion, are invited as distinguished professors. Wu Xiaoli, deputy director of Phoenix Satellite TV Information Channel and famous host, is invited as dean of the School of Fashion Communication to actively build a gathering place for high-level talents in the fashion field. The school has 1 R&D center of the Ministry of Education, 1 R&D center of Beijing, 3 key laboratories of Beijing, 2 engineering technology research centers of Beijing, 1 technology transfer center of Beijing, 1 research base of philosophy and social sciences of Beijing, and 1 platform of capital science and technology conditions, with complete high-level scientific research facilities. Under the guidance of the Winter Sports Management Center of the State General Administration of Sports, the China Disabled Persons' Federation, the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee and other departments, the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology has established the National Winter Sports Clothing Equipment R&D Center, the Accessible Clothing Research Center, and the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games Uniform Equipment R&D Laboratory, and other institutions, actively playing the role of think tank services. At the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics, the school actively played its disciplinary and professional advantages and successfully completed the costume design tasks for 9 competition events, breaking the long-term reliance on imports for China's winter sports competition uniforms; completed the design tasks for torchbearer costumes, Winter Olympics uniforms and award ceremony uniforms, completed the design of 6 landscape venues including the National Alpine Skiing Center, Shougang Ski Jump, and Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee Headquarters, and completed the design of the commemorative stamps for the "Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics Competition Venues", helping the Winter Olympics in terms of design, technology, and volunteer services.
