Beijing Institute of Technology Zhuhai College is an independent college approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and formally established on May 8, 2004. It is run by Beijing Institute of Technology and is an important strategic extension and component of the college. The school's host university, Beijing Institute of Technology, was founded in Yan'an in 1940. It is the first university of science and engineering founded by the Communist Party of China. It is a key university built by the state in batches since the founding of the People's Republic of China. It is the first batch to enter the national "211 Project" and "985 Project", and the first batch to enter the A-level ranks of "world-class universities". It is now affiliated to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway and the Guangdong Western Coastal Expressway pass through the northeast sides of the school. The east gate of the school faces the Tangjiawan Station of the Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity Railway. It takes 50 minutes to travel between Zhuhai and Guangzhou, and the transportation is very convenient. The 200,000 square meters of artificial lake on campus ripples, and the green environment accounts for more than 80% of the total area of the campus. The school has built more than 500,000 square meters of teaching and supporting facilities such as teaching buildings, libraries, laboratories, student dormitories and student canteens, more than 100,000 square meters of sports venues, more than 220,000 square meters of teaching and administrative buildings, 2.0525 million books, and teaching and scientific research equipment with a total value of about 210 million yuan. Relying on the advantages of science and engineering at the main campus of Beijing Institute of Technology, the school is guided by the needs of economic and social development and continuously optimizes the professional structure and layout. It now has 18 professional colleges (teaching departments), covering 7 major disciplines and 64 undergraduate majors, of which 36 are science and engineering majors, accounting for 56.25%. After years of construction and development, the school now has 1 national first-class undergraduate major construction site, 8 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites; 1 provincial characteristic key discipline, 2 provincial key cultivation disciplines, 3 municipal advantageous disciplines; 1 provincial strategic emerging industry characteristic major, 1 provincial application-oriented talent training demonstration major, 8 provincial comprehensive reform pilot majors, and 7 IEET engineering and technology education certification majors. The school continues to introduce the advantageous resources of the main campus of Beijing Institute of Technology, and has established the Zhuhai Beijing Institute of Technology Research Institute, the Beijing Institute of Technology Academician Workstation (Zhuhai), and the Beijing Institute of Technology Two-in-one Development Research Institute (Zhuhai). Relying on the high-end scientific research platform resources of the main campus of Beijing Institute of Technology, connecting with the economic and social development needs of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and serving the transformation and upgrading of local industries in Zhuhai, the school has established scientific research and innovation teams with experts such as Academician Zhou Liwei, Academician Duo Yingxian, Academician Gan Xiaohua, and Academician Liang Huixing as the core, including optoelectronic technology and intelligent manufacturing systems, civil drone technology, printed materials, high-end manufacturing, civil and commercial law, port and shipping logistics, and industrial ecology. The school has built 23 scientific research platforms at all levels, including 1 Zhuhai branch of a provincial and ministerial laboratory, 2 provincial engineering technology centers, 1 provincial joint laboratory, 3 municipal key laboratories, 3 municipal collaborative innovation centers, 3 municipal small and medium-sized enterprise open laboratories, 1 municipal public laboratory, 2 municipal public technology platforms, and 6 municipal social science research bases. The school pays attention to the development of international and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan exchanges and cooperation. So far, it has signed exchange and cooperation agreements with 72 universities at home and abroad, encouraging students to study abroad and further their studies, and carrying out joint training and undergraduate and master's degree programs with foreign universities.
