Founded in 1960, Beijing University of Technology is a multi-disciplinary municipal key university with engineering as its main discipline, combining engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law, art and education. In 1981, it became the first batch of master's degree awarding institutions approved by the Ministry of Education of China, and in 1985 it became a doctoral degree awarding institution. In 1996, it passed the preliminary review of the national "211 Project" and officially entered the ranks of the country's 100 key universities in the 21st century. The school officially entered the ranks of national first-class discipline construction universities in 2017. In 2022, it successfully passed the first round of construction evaluation and entered the second round of "Double First-Class" construction universities and construction disciplines. 10 disciplines are among the top 500 in the QS World University Rankings, and 10 disciplines including engineering, materials science, chemistry, environmental science and ecology, computer science, biology and biochemistry, general social sciences, physics, earth sciences, and clinical medicine are among the top 1% of ESI in the world, and engineering is among the top 1‰ of ESI in the world. The main campus of the school is located at No. 100, Pingleyuan, Chaoyang District, Beijing. It is adjacent to East Fourth Ring Road South in the east, Xidawang Road in the west, Shuanglong Road in the south, and Pingleyuan Community in the north. There are 6 other campuses, namely Zhonglan, Guanzhuang, Huayuan Village, Liulijing, Huixin East Street and Tongzhou. It covers an area of 961,418 square meters. The school has 25 schools (departments and divisions); 72 undergraduate majors, 34 graduate majors (including 1 self-established interdisciplinary subject), and 19 professional degree categories; it has 20 first-level doctoral degree authorization points, 33 first-level master's degree authorization points; 4 doctoral professional degree authorization categories, 19 master's professional degree authorization categories; 19 postdoctoral mobile stations, of which 91 people have left the station, 91 people have entered the station, and 334 people are in the station. There are 3 national key disciplines, 21 Beijing key disciplines, and 18 Beijing key construction disciplines. It has 2 national engineering laboratories, 1 national key laboratory, 1 national engineering research center, 1 national industry-university-research center, 1 international cooperation research center, 1 provincial and ministerial national key laboratory cultivation base, 3 engineering research centers of the Ministry of Education, 5 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 1 strategic research base of the Ministry of Education, 45 Beijing-level scientific research bases, 4 industry key laboratories, 2 provincial and ministerial collaborative innovation centers, 2 Beijing-level collaborative innovation centers, and 1 Beijing University High-tech Innovation Center. 2 professional journals are published regularly. The school party committee has 23 second-level party organizations (including 19 second-level party committees and 4 second-level party general branches), and 492 party branches (including 157 in-service teaching and staff party branches, 280 student party branches, 54 retired party branches, and 1 mixed party branch). There are 11,233 party members, including 2,671 active faculty members (including 1,493 teachers), 7,231 student members (including 1,722 undergraduates and 5,509 postgraduates), and 1,331 retired party members. There are 3,311 faculty members, 731 doctoral supervisors (including professional and academic doctoral supervisors), 1,692 master's supervisors (including professional and academic master's supervisors), 10 academicians of the two Chinese academies, 1 member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and 1 foreign academician of the Japan Academy of Engineering. There are 37 leading talents such as winners of the "National Outstanding Youth Science Fund", 31 outstanding talents such as winners of the "National Natural Science Foundation Excellent Youth Science Fund", 18 experts with outstanding contributions to the country, 35 in-service experts enjoying special government subsidies, and 181 people selected for the Beijing High-level Talent Introduction Program. There are 26,164 students in the school, including 10,996 full-time graduate students (2,534 doctoral students and 8,462 master's students), 646 part-time master's students, 12,974 ordinary undergraduates, 1,411 adult education undergraduates, and 137 in-service personnel studying for a master's degree among non-planned higher education students.
