The Central Academy of Drama is the first higher education institution of drama education in New China. It is a directly affiliated institution of the Ministry of Education. It is the highest institution of drama, film and television art education in China. It is a "double first-class" construction university determined by the state. It is the headquarters of the China Higher Drama Education Alliance, the headquarters of the Asian Drama Education Research Center and the secretariat of the World Drama Education Alliance. It is a world-renowned art school. The history of the Central Academy of Drama can be traced back to the Yan'an Lu Xun Academy of Arts, which was established on April 10, 1938. It has a history of more than 80 years. In December 1949, the Central Academy of Drama was officially opened. On April 2, 1950, the founding meeting of the Central Academy of Drama was held. Chairman Mao Zedong personally wrote the name of the school. The Central Academy of Drama currently has two campuses. The Dongcheng campus is located at No. 39 Dongmianhua Hutong, Dongcheng District, Beijing, and the Changping campus is located at No. 4 Hongfu Middle Road, Changping District, Beijing. The two campuses cover a total area of about 230,000 square meters and a construction area of about 180,000 square meters. The Central Academy of Drama has departments of performance, directing, stage art, drama literature, musicals, Peking opera, opera, dance, drama education, drama management, film and television, drama studies, and digital drama. Undergraduate majors include: performance, folk art, drama and film directing, drama and film art design, recording art, drama and film literature, drama studies, musicals, drama education, art management, and broadcasting and hosting arts. The academy has doctoral and master's degree authorization points in art, drama and film, and opera and folk art. The academy has a postdoctoral research mobile station. The Central Academy of Drama has the only national teaching team in the field of performance in China, the only national characteristic professional construction point in the field of directing, the only national talent training model innovation experimental area for musical performance teaching, and the only national experimental teaching demonstration center for drama and film. The "Intelligent Drama Art Space" has been approved for the construction of a key laboratory of the Ministry of Education. The academy is home to the China Art Education Promotion Association, China Drama Association, China Dramatists Association Director Art Committee, International Stage Art Alliance, China Dance Art Society, International Stage Art Organization China Center, International Theater Critics Association China Chapter, China Stage Art Education Alliance, China Musical Association Teaching Professional Committee, China Primary and Secondary School Drama Education Research Center, China Drama Culture Management Collaborative Innovation Center, "Belt and Road" National Film Education International Alliance and World Dance Drama Education Alliance.
