The school originated from Changchun Municipal School of Traditional Chinese Medicine Continuing Education, which was established in 1950. Its predecessor was Changchun College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which was established in 1958. It was renamed Changchun University of Chinese Medicine in 2006. The school is a key university of Jilin Province, a university of the National Central and Western College Basic Capacity Construction Project, a university jointly built by the People's Government of Jilin Province and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and a university of Jilin Province's characteristic high-level university construction. The school has always adhered to the school motto of "opening up the past and embracing the present, being virtuous and skilled", firmly grasped the fundamental task of cultivating people with morality, and formed a multi-level and multi-type talent training pattern from undergraduate education to master and doctoral graduate education, as well as higher vocational education, continuing education, and international student education. It has trained more than 100,000 talents of all levels and types for the country, and alumni are all over the world. The school highlights the characteristics and advantages of traditional Chinese medicine, combines production, learning and research, and continuously improves its contribution rate to regional economic and social development. The school covers an area of 391,200 square meters and a building area of 321,400 square meters. The school has a total of 10,816 full-time undergraduates, 529 junior college students, 2,870 full-time master's students, 466 full-time doctoral students, and 49 international students. The school has 184 doctoral supervisors and 766 master's supervisors. The school has 1 academician (dual appointment), 4 national medical masters, 1 Bethune Medal, 1 "Yangtze River Scholar", 1 chief scientist of the National 973 Project, 5 national leaders of traditional Chinese medicine "Qihuang Scholars" (including "Young Qihuang Scholars"), 1 "Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions" in the National Hundred Thousand Talents Project, 4 National Outstanding Teachers, 4 National Famous Chinese Medicine Practitioners, 2 National Teaching Masters of Traditional Chinese Medicine Colleges and Universities, 1 National Course Ideological and Political Teaching Master, 43 people enjoy special allowances from the State Council, 2 people in the New Century Excellent Talents Program of the Ministry of Education, and 27 national old traditional Chinese medicine experts who are instructors for the inheritance of academic experience. The school has five disciplines, mainly Chinese medicine, with coordinated development of medicine, engineering, management, law, literature and other disciplines. There are 2 first-level postdoctoral mobile stations, 2 first-level doctoral degree authorization points, 1 doctoral professional degree authorization point, 6 first-level master's degree authorization points, and 6 master's professional degree authorization points. The school currently has one ESI top 1% discipline in the world (pharmacology and toxicology), one discipline approved for construction in the world-class discipline cultivation plan of Jilin Province, 6 high-level Chinese medicine key discipline construction projects of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 19 key disciplines of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and 4 high-level disciplines with characteristics of Jilin Province. The school has 23 undergraduate majors, including 7 national first-class professional construction points, 4 national characteristic professional construction points, 1 national professional comprehensive reform pilot major, and 8 provincial characteristic majors. There is 1 national talent training model innovation experimental zone, 1 national virtual teaching and research room construction pilot, and 1 branch teaching and research room. There are 12 national first-class undergraduate courses, 1 national ideological and political demonstration course, 2 national quality resource sharing courses, 3 national quality courses, 2 national virtual simulation experimental teaching projects, 1 national ideological and political teaching team, and 1 Huang Danian-style teacher team in national universities. The school has edited 74 planned textbooks, and won 1 advanced individual in the first national textbook construction award and 2 second prizes for excellent textbooks in the first national textbook construction. It has won 2 national teaching achievement awards and 1 special prize for teaching achievements in Jilin Province. The school has strong scientific research strength. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, it has successively undertaken 62 major key scientific and technological projects such as the National Key R&D Program, the "973" Project, the Fourth Chinese Medicine Resources Survey Project, the National Natural Science Foundation Regional Innovation Development Joint Fund Project, and the National Social Science Fund Project; 512 high-level scientific research results have been achieved; 131 scientific research awards at all levels, including 6 first prizes for provincial scientific and technological progress and 1 first prize for provincial outstanding social science achievements; there are currently 155 scientific research platforms of various levels and types dominated by traditional Chinese medicine, such as the Northeast Asia Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Jilin Ginseng Science Research Institute, Changchun National Bioindustry Base Medical Pilot Platform, National Traditional Chinese Medicine Quality Inspection Technology Platform (North), and National Modern Chinese Medicine International Science and Technology Cooperation Base, including 93 national and provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms; 146 innovation and entrepreneurship awards at or above the provincial level, including 35 national ones, and the school was rated as one of the top 50 universities with typical experience in innovation and entrepreneurship in the country in 2019 by the Ministry of Education; in 2020, our school's metabolic disease team was selected as one of the only 5 national first batch of multidisciplinary cross-innovation teams in traditional Chinese medicine in the country. The school is one of the first institutions approved by the Ministry of Education to receive and train foreign students, students from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao, and Chinese government scholarship students. It has carried out extensive academic exchanges and cooperation with universities and research institutions in 23 countries and regions. The construction and development of the school has been widely praised by all sectors of society and fully affirmed by governments at all levels. It is a national-level college student cultural quality education base, a national TCM culture publicity and education base, and a national science popularization education base. It has won the titles of "National Civilized Unit" and "National Civilized Campus", and has been awarded the titles of "National University with Typical Experience in Graduate Employment" and "National University with Typical Experience in Innovation and Entrepreneurship" by the Ministry of Education. The School of Basic Medicine has won the title of "National Advanced Collective in the Education System"; the affiliated hospital has won the titles of "National May 1st Labor Award", "National Advanced Collective in the Health System", "National Advanced Collective in Foreign Medical Aid", "National Advanced Collective in Fighting the New Coronary Pneumonia Epidemic", and "National Advanced Grassroots Party Organization".
