Changchun University of Technology is a provincial key university with engineering as its main discipline, and engineering, management, literature, science, economics, law, art and other disciplines supporting each other and developing in a coordinated manner. Founded in 1952, the Changchun Automobile Industry School was founded by the state in the early days of the school to prepare for the construction of China's first automobile manufacturing plant. It has gone through the development stages of Changchun Industrial College, Jilin Institute of Technology, and Jilin Institute of Technology. In June 1970, Jilin Institute of Technology merged with Jilin University of Technology and resumed school in October 1978. In September 2000, Changchun Coal Industry School, Changchun Coal Management Cadre College, and Jilin Industrial Design School were incorporated. In March 2002, it was renamed Changchun University of Technology. In 1992, it was identified by the Jilin Provincial Government as one of the first three provincial key universities, and in 2004 it was again identified as a provincial key university. In 1990, it obtained the right to confer master's degrees, in 2013, it obtained the right to confer doctoral degrees, and in 2016 it was selected as a university in the "Basic Capacity Building Project for Colleges and Universities in Central and Western China". In March 2020, it was selected as a university in the construction project of Jilin Province's characteristic high-level applied research university. The school currently has two campuses, Nanhu and Beihu, covering an area of 1.252 million square meters. The campus environment is elegant and it is an ideal place for studying and studying. The school has 15 colleges and 56 undergraduate majors, including 14 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 27 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, and 3 national "Excellence Plan" pilot majors; 8 national first-class courses and 17 provincial first-class courses; there are 2 postdoctoral mobile stations, 5 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 20 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, and 15 master's professional degree categories; there are 14 characteristic high-level disciplines in Jilin Province. In 2022, two disciplines, materials science and engineering, and mechanical engineering, were successfully selected as the project construction disciplines of the "World-Class Discipline Cultivation Plan" of Jilin Province's colleges and universities, and the disciplines of chemistry, materials science, and engineering entered the top 1% of the ESI global ranking. The school has the qualification to recommend outstanding undergraduate graduates to study for a master's degree without examination. The school currently has 24,900 students, including 18,954 undergraduates, 3,972 master's students, 238 doctoral students, and 36 international students. There are 1,642 faculty members, including 1,286 full-time teachers, 209 teachers with senior professional titles, and 418 teachers with associate senior professional titles. There are 5 academicians and 1 outstanding young scholar who have been introduced flexibly; 2 experts selected for the National "Million Talents Project", 2 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions at the national level, 1 lecture professor of the Ministry of Education's major talent project, 1 chief expert of the National Humanities and Social Sciences Major Project, 1 winner of the National Excellent Youth Science Fund, 6 people with special government allowances from the State Council, 1 national excellent teacher, 1 national excellent teaching team, 10 Jilin Province teaching masters, 6 Changbai Mountain Scholars, 30 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions in Jilin Province, and 30 top innovative talents in Jilin Province. The school currently has 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 5 national engineering practice education centers, and 1 national off-campus practice education base for college students. There are 3 national scientific research platforms, 1 national (Ministry of Science and Technology) technology transfer center, 45 provincial scientific research platforms, and 9 provincial key research bases for humanities and social sciences. In the past five years, the school has obtained 4 national key R&D plan projects (topics), 82 National Natural Science Foundation projects, and 16 National (Ministry of Education) Social Science Fund and National Art Fund. The scientific research results have won 8 first prizes and 20 second prizes in Jilin Province Science and Technology Progress, 1 China Patent Excellence Award, and 2 Jilin Province Patent Gold Awards. The school has always insisted on closely combining scientific and technological research and development with major national needs and the local economic and social development of Jilin Province. Focusing on key scientific and technological issues that restrict the development of traditional industries and promote the cultivation of emerging industries, the school has continuously innovated the industry-university-research cooperation mechanism, and has achieved a series of major results in the fields of upgrading the entire carbon fiber industry chain, micro-nano and ultra-precision processing, strengthening and toughening of metal materials, high-performance polymer new materials, metallurgical energy saving, rail transportation, artificial intelligence and big data, and intelligent control. The school has achieved results transformation and industrialization in many well-known domestic companies, and many technologies have helped companies achieve innovative development, supporting and leading the technological upgrading and transformation of traditional industries in our province and making important contributions to the adjustment of industrial structure. In the long-term practice of running schools, the school has accumulated the spirit of "self-improvement and striving for the first-class" and the school motto of "patriotism, dedication, truth-seeking and innovation", and strives to cultivate senior engineering and compound professional talents with innovative consciousness, innovative spirit and innovative ability. Over the past 70 years since its establishment, the school has trained nearly 210,000 outstanding talents of all kinds for the country. In 2004, the school passed the evaluation of the undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education with an "excellent" score. In 2014, as the first batch of universities in Jilin Province in the country, it successfully passed the review and evaluation of the undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education. Graduates are generally praised by employers for their high comprehensive quality, strong practical ability, good adaptability, peace of mind at the grassroots, hard work, retention, use, and trustworthiness. The employment rate of graduates has always been at the forefront of universities in the province. It has won the "National Advanced Collective for Graduate Employment" and the first batch of "50 Typical Experience Universities for Graduate Employment" in the country. In recent years, the quality of students has been continuously improved, and students' practical innovation ability has been continuously enhanced. In 2009, 2019, and 2023, it won the "Challenge Cup" National College Students' Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition "Champion Cup" three times, and ranked 75th in the 2021 National General College Student Competition List, and ranked 85th in the 2017-2021 National Local Undergraduate College Student Competition List, and was shortlisted in the top 100 national general colleges and local undergraduate colleges subject competition rankings. The school is one of the first batch of universities approved by the Ministry of Education to conditionally accept foreign students. It has established friendly cooperative relations with universities and research institutions in the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, South Korea, Russia and other countries. The school actively responds to the "Belt and Road" initiative and deepens international exchanges and cooperation. The proportion of international students from the "Belt and Road" countries accounts for 100%. It has cooperated with Oakland University and Portland State University in the United States to organize 4 undergraduate education projects, and has established inter-school friendly relations with 75 colleges and universities in 21 countries and regions.
