Chaohu University is a full-time public undergraduate university in Anhui Province. Founded in 1977, its predecessor was Chaohu Teachers College. In April 2002, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was upgraded to an undergraduate college and renamed Chaohu University. In June 2006, it was approved to confer bachelor's degrees. In October 2019, it was approved to add a master's degree project construction unit. In February 2024, it was approved to build a master's degree conferring unit with key projects. The school covers an area of 1,324.5 acres. There are 15 secondary colleges and 56 undergraduate majors. There are 1,100 faculty and staff, including 382 with associate senior titles or above, 2 leading talents of Jianghuai cultural masters, 18 provincial teaching masters, 39 provincial teaching newcomers, 16 provincial teaching teams, 4 provincial scientific research teams, 79 master's supervisors, 129 joint training master's students, and 549 dual-qualified and dual-capable teachers. There are 17,052 full-time students. The school adheres to the "local, application-oriented" school-running orientation. There are 3 national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 1 national characteristic major, 12 provincial first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 8 provincial characteristic majors, 6 provincial comprehensive reform pilot majors, 2 provincial first-class (brand) majors, 5 provincial demonstration experimental training centers, 15 provincial excellent talent education and training programs, and 50 provincial and above teaching achievement awards. The school adheres to the concept of supporting talent training with discipline construction. Two disciplines, Materials Science and Engineering and Sports Science, were selected into the list of application-oriented peak cultivation disciplines in Anhui Province. Priority is given to the construction of three professional master's degree programs in sports, materials and chemical engineering, and electronic information, and 11 key (construction) disciplines such as applied economics are focused on. There are 4 provincial scientific research platforms, including "Anhui Province High-efficiency Intelligent Photovoltaic Module Engineering Research Center", "Anhui Province High-frequency Soft Magnetic and Ceramic Powder Material Engineering Research Center", "Round Chaohu Rural Revitalization Collaborative Technology Service Center", and "New Photoelectric System Equipment and Drive Optimization Anhui Province Jointly Built Key Discipline Laboratory", "Round Chaohu Culture and Economic and Social Development Research Center", "Industrial Ceramics Preparation and Application Engineering Technology Research Center" 2 department-level scientific research platforms, "Anhui Volleyball College" and "Anhui Traditional Minority Sports Training Base" 2 department-level education practice platforms, "Chaohu College Bioinformatics Big Data Research and Application Research Institute" and other 33 school-level platforms. In recent years, 29 national scientific research projects such as the National Social Science Fund Project, the National Natural Science Foundation Project, and the National Art Fund have been approved, and more than 500 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects such as the Ministry of Education's Humanities and Social Sciences General Project and the Provincial Natural Science Foundation Project. More than 200 national invention patents have been authorized. The school insists on seeking support through service and promoting development through contribution. Formulate and implement the action plan to support the construction of "three places and one district" in Anhui Province and the action plan to enhance the economic and social development of the Chaohu Lake area. More than 700 industry-university-research cooperation agreements have been signed with Anchao Economic Development Zone, Chaohu Municipal Government, Hefei Sports Bureau, Wanwei Group and other units, and nearly 200 million yuan has been received in funds for horizontal scientific research projects. More than 60 achievements have been approved by leaders or adopted and promoted by the government. Among them, 6 achievements such as "Legal Path for Comprehensive Governance of Chaohu Lake" have been affirmed and approved by provincial party committee leaders, and 5 achievements such as "Suggestions on Improving the Operation Performance of Operating Poverty Alleviation Assets" have been adopted by central ministries and commissions. The school adheres to open and cooperative development. Actively expand and promote exchanges and cooperation with countries along the "Belt and Road", and have established cooperative relations with 18 colleges and universities in South Korea, the United States, Ireland, Malaysia and other countries, and cooperated with Shannon University of Technology in Ireland-Central and Western China to hold a 3+1 cooperation project for undergraduate education in hotel management. Actively integrate into the high-quality development of integrated education in the Yangtze River Delta, and sign a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Changzhou University and Jiaxing University. Sign cooperation agreements with 6 universities in and outside the province to carry out joint training of master's students. In the past five years, students have won 3,304 awards in provincial and above subject skill competitions, including 461 national awards. One student was awarded the title of "International Student Ambassador 2022-2023" by the Irish Ministry of Education, one graduate won the 2022 "National College Graduate Grassroots Employment Excellence Award", two students were listed in the "National Scholarship Award-winning Student Representative List" of the People's Daily, and six students were named "China University Student Self-improvement Star".
