China Institute of Labor Relations is the only general undergraduate college directly under the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, jointly established by the All-China Federation of Trade Unions and the Ministry of Education. The predecessor of the school was the Yan'an Workers' School established in March 1939. In June 1939, the Yan'an Workers' School, the Shaanxi-Northern Public School, the Anwubao Youth Training Class, and the Luxun Academy of Arts merged to form the North China United University. In April 1946, the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Border Region Administrative Cadre School, which was separated from the North China United University, was established in Zhangjiakou. In early 1949, the school moved to Tianjin and was renamed the North China Workers and Cadre School. In September 1949, according to the instructions of Comrade Liu Shaoqi, it was renamed the All-China Federation of Trade Unions Cadre School. In 1984, it was renamed the China Institute of Labor Movement and carried out adult education for the national trade union system and society. In 2003, it was restructured and upgraded to a general undergraduate college and renamed the China Institute of Labor Relations. In 2012, it started postgraduate education for public administration professional degree. In July 2017, the "Opinions of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions and the Ministry of Education on the Joint Construction of the China Institute of Labor Relations" was officially issued. In 2018, it began to recruit graduate students in Hong Kong. In November 2021, it was approved to become a master's degree-granting institution, and carried out the recruitment, training and degree-granting of graduate students in three majors: social work, journalism and communication, and public administration. In January 2022, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions issued the "Opinions on Supporting the Construction of the China Institute of Labor Relations into a First-Class University with Distinctive Features", which further strengthened the confidence of all teachers and students in the school to build a first-class university with distinctive features, and the school's development entered a new historical stage. In March 2024, it was approved to join the "Yanhe University Talent Training Alliance", adhering to the common spiritual source of "Yan'an Roots and Yanhe Soul", innovating talent training models, and contributing due strength to the construction of a strong country and national rejuvenation. Since its establishment, the school has always been highly valued by the leaders of the Party and the country. Mao Zedong, Liu Shaoqi, Zhou Enlai, Zhu De, Deng Xiaoping, Chen Yun, Peng Zhen, Hu Yaobang, Wei Jianxing, Wang Zhaoguo, Sun Chunlan, Li Jianguo, Wang Dongming and other party and state leaders have visited the school many times to guide the work or meet with school representatives. On the eve of May Day in 2018, General Secretary Xi Jinping wrote back to the students of the model worker undergraduate class of our school, which greatly encouraged the determination of all teachers, students and staff of the school to "carry forward the characteristics and create first-class". The school currently has two campuses in Haidian, Beijing and Zhuozhou, Hebei, covering an area of 630 acres and a building area of 345,800 square meters. The school library has more than 900,000 paper books, more than 2 million electronic books, and more than 900,000 electronic journals. The school has a total of 6,281 students, including 339 graduate students, 5,435 undergraduates, 211 model worker undergraduates, and 296 ordinary junior college students. The school has been adhering to the Chinese characteristics, labor characteristics, and trade union characteristics for many years, and has unswervingly taken the "special, precise and advanced" connotation-oriented development path. It has developed into a university with relatively complete disciplines in the field of labor and trade unions. The school has 14 colleges and 1 public teaching department, including the Trade Union College, the School of Marxism, the School of Labor Relations and Human Resources, the School of Law, the School of Labor Economics, the School of Public Administration, the School of Safety Engineering, the School of Social Work, the School of Cultural Communication, the School of Labor Education (Labor Education Research Institute), the School of Hotel Management, the School of Computer Science, the School of Training for Trade Union Cadres, and the School of Model Workers (Craftsman College, Continuing Education College); it has opened 25 general undergraduate majors, including labor relations, human resources management, business administration, economics, labor economics, financial management, law, labor and social security, administrative management, political science and administration, social work, sociology, safety engineering, occupational health engineering, Chinese language and literature, journalism, drama and film literature, hotel management, computer science and technology, ideological and political education, emergency technology and management, labor education, tourism management, applied statistics, and trade union studies, as well as 2 junior college majors, including hotel management and digital operations, and tourism English. The university aims to build a first-class domestic and internationally renowned university in the field of labor and trade unions, and has cultivated and gathered a group of high-level experts and scholars. The university has a total of 597 faculty members, including 383 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, there are 43 professors on contract, 112 associate professors on contract, and 57% of the teachers have doctoral degrees.96%. Among the teachers of the school, 14 enjoy the special government allowance of the State Council, 4 are experts of the Higher Education Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, 1 is the winner of the "New Century Excellent Talent Support Program" fund of the Ministry of Education, 1 is a national excellent teacher, 10 are provincial teaching masters, 6 are excellent teaching masters of Beijing higher education institutions, 5 are excellent teachers of Beijing, 3 are young teaching masters of Beijing, 18 are selected for the Beijing Youth Talent Program, and 4 are national March 8 Red Flag Bearers. In the practice of running schools for more than 70 years, the school has been based on the trade union, facing the society, serving the construction of harmonious labor relations, serving the construction of high-quality trade union cadres and industrial workers, and focusing on cultivating high-quality application-oriented, compound and innovative talents with "strong political quality, deep labor sentiment, solid professional foundation and outstanding practical ability". The school's 7 majors of labor relations, law, human resources management, social work, journalism, safety engineering, and labor and social security are national first-class undergraduate major construction points, and 6 majors of social work, labor and social security, economics, business administration, administrative management, and hotel management are Beijing's first-class undergraduate major construction points. In addition, it also has two characteristic majors of the Ministry of Education, law and labor relations, one national experimental teaching demonstration center, the "Comprehensive Experimental Teaching Center for Labor Relations Coordination and Development", five outstanding teaching teams in Beijing, namely, the "Ideological and Political Theory Course Teaching Team", the "Cultural Communication Innovation Talent Training Education Team", the "Labor Law and Social Security Law Teaching and Education Team", the "China Institute of Labor Relations Social Work Major (Model Worker Undergraduate Class) Teaching Team" and the "China Institute of Labor Relations Trade Union Cadre Training Core Teaching Team", two Beijing Higher Education Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers, the "Labor Relations Coordination and Development Experimental Teaching Center" and the "Cultural Communication Experimental Teaching Center", and two municipal off-campus talent training bases for Beijing higher education, namely, "Northern Lingyun Industrial Group Co., Ltd." and "Beijing Zhongrui Huantai Technology Co., Ltd." The university vigorously develops scientific research and think tank construction. It has multiple academic research platforms such as the National Trade Union Research Association, the Chinese Workers' History and Current Situation Research Association, and the China Trade Union Labor Relations Forum. There are 8 school-affiliated research institutions such as the Great Craftsmen and Labor Model Research Institute, the "Belt and Road" and Labor Relations Research Institute, and the Development Strategy Research Institute, and 25 research institutions affiliated to the institutes (departments) such as the China Workers Development Research Institute. It has formed a research team with outstanding research capabilities and great social influence. Academic research in the theory of the working class and trade unions, labor relations, labor law, labor economics, occupational safety and health, and labor education is at the leading level in China. The school actively promotes the construction of new think tanks. The Institute of Labor Relations and Trade Unions takes "advising the government, enlightening the people, respecting labor, and benefiting the people" as its mission, focusing on major issues and serving national strategies. It launches high-quality research results through editing research trends, writing consulting reports, and publishing blue books, providing intellectual services for relevant decisions of the Central Committee and the All-China Federation of Trade Unions. The Institute of Labor Education focuses on studying the labor education model with Chinese characteristics and the construction of a labor education system that reflects the characteristics of the times. It plays a think tank role in labor education decision-making, policy consultation, and research results transformation through the establishment of Labor Education Review, editing Labor Education Research Report, publishing China Labor Education Development Report, hosting high-end labor education seminars and national labor education summits for universities, middle schools, and primary schools. The school currently has three academic journals. The Journal of China Institute of Labor Relations is committed to in-depth research on trade union theory and labor relations theory, and strives to reflect the latest research results in this field. It has formed a distinctive journal feature and high-quality academic quality; Labor Education Review is the first special labor education research journal in China, dedicated to the prosperity of labor education scientific research, and serving the construction of labor education disciplines and education reform and development; China Teachers and Workers is a national comprehensive education journal in the field of trade unions. It aims to promote the development of education, especially education trade unions. It is a useful tool for educators to improve their theoretical literacy and an important position for the Chinese Federation of Trade Unions of Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports to guide, publicize and exchange trade union work. The school is the highest institution for training trade union cadres in China, training more than 6,000 trade union cadres annually, and also provides high-level continuing education. Since 1992, the school has insisted on holding undergraduate education for model workers, providing further study opportunities and growth space for a large number of labor heroes and "great country craftsmen" of the Republic. A total of 998 model workers have been trained, including 302 national model workers, 284 national May 1st Labor Medal winners, and 14 national advanced workers; 36 National People's Congress deputies, 26 National Party Congress deputies; 11 people won the China Skills Award, and 7 people's teams were awarded the National Demonstration Model Worker Craftsman Innovation Studio. The school has always attached great importance to academic exchanges and contacts with universities and research institutes at home and abroad, and has established friendly relations with high-level universities and research institutions in 20 countries and regions such as Russia, Belarus, Poland, Vietnam, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, the Netherlands, Italy and Argentina, as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and carried out multi-level and multi-field academic seminars and teacher-student exchanges and visits. In recent years, the school has achieved fruitful results in sending visiting scholars, overseas training of teachers, joint training of talents, training of international trade union cadres, and holding a series of international academic theme activities. Special tasks such as recruiting and training international students and attracting overseas talents have made significant progress. At present, all teachers and students of the school are working hard to build the school into an important base for cultivating high-quality applied, compound and innovative talents in my country, the highest institution for training trade union cadres, and a high-end think tank for research in the field of labor and trade unions, laying a more solid foundation for building the school into a first-class domestic and internationally renowned university in the field of labor and trade unions.
