The Army Medical University is a national key university with a long history and glorious tradition, a key military construction institution, one of the first national doctoral degree-granting institutions, and one of the first national eight-year medical education institutions. It is an active advocate and inheritor of the "Red Military Medical Spirit" (the roots can be traced back to the first military medical school of our army established in 1931-the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army Medical School), and the birthplace of the "Bethune Spirit". The university was rebuilt on the basis of the Third Military Medical University in 2017, incorporating the Bethune Medical Officer School, the Military Medical Training Brigade of the Western Theater Army Comprehensive Training Base, the Eighth Hospital of the People's Liberation Army, the 260th Hospital of the People's Liberation Army, and the 324th Hospital of the People's Liberation Army, forming a deployment pattern in Chongqing, Shijiazhuang, Hebei, Hutubi, Xinjiang, and Shigatse, Tibet, covering an area of 9,079 acres, and can be called the "Third Military Medical University" to the outside world. The university has a basic medical school, a military preventive medicine department, a pharmacy and laboratory medicine department, a biomedical engineering and imaging medicine department, a plateau military medicine department, a general medicine department, a medical psychology department, a nursing department, an army medical training base, a graduate school, an overseas training brigade, a non-commissioned officer school, a border defense medical training brigade, as well as a vocational education center, a teaching and evaluation center, a teaching and research support center, a service support center, and a police communication service company. It has the First Affiliated Hospital (externally known as the "Southwest Hospital"), the Second Affiliated Hospital (externally known as the "Xinqiao Hospital"), the Army Characteristic Medical Center (externally known as the "Daping Hospital"), the Affiliated Hospital of the Non-commissioned Officer School, the 953rd Army Hospital, and the 958th Army Hospital. The university is located in Chongqing. Its predecessor was the Health Teaching Team of the Ministry of Health of the Taiyue Military Region (the predecessor of the Seventh Military Medical University) established in 1941, the Military Medical School of the Songjiang Military Region in 1946, and the National Zhongzheng Medical College in 1937 (both predecessors of the Sixth Military Medical University). In 1954, the Sixth Military Medical University (Nanchang) was merged into the Seventh Military Medical University (Chongqing), and was renamed the Third Military Medical University in 1975. The Non-commissioned Officer School is located in Shijiazhuang, Hebei. Its predecessor was the Health School of the Jin-Cha-Ji Military Region established in 1939 (in the same year, the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army Medical School sent some teachers and students to North China to merge with the school). It was renamed the Bethune Medical Non-commissioned Officer School in 2011 and was rebuilt into the Non-commissioned Officer School of the Army Medical University in 2017. The Border Defense Medical Training Battalion is located in Hutubi, Xinjiang. Its predecessor was the Medical Training Team of the Second Column of the Northwest Field Army established in 1947. In 2016, it was renamed the Military Medical Training Battalion of the Western Theater Army Comprehensive Training Base, and was rebuilt into the Border Defense Medical Training Battalion of the Army Medical University in 2017. The university is a medical institution of higher education. It mainly trains medical officers and civilian personnel for the Army, Rocket Force, and Armed Police Force, and trains medical sergeants for the entire army. The main training tasks are undergraduate education, graduate education, sergeant vocational and technical education, and officer promotion education (primary command education); at the same time, it also undertakes professional training for officer positions, officer position qualification training, civilian personnel initial training, civilian personnel position professional training, pre-selected sergeant training, sergeant promotion training, targeted training of sergeants pre-job training, foreign military training, recruit training, resident physician standardized training, national and local emergency medical rescue force training, etc. It has the most complete training levels, the most complete systems, and the most complete majors, and has always been in the first echelon among medical schools in the country. The university offers 11 undergraduate majors, including clinical medicine, basic medicine, preventive medicine, stomatology, pharmacy, nursing, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, medical imaging technology, medical laboratory technology, and public utilities management, as well as 8 sergeant vocational and technical education majors. It has 10 first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 12 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, 7 professional degree categories, 9 postdoctoral mobile stations, 13 national key disciplines, 4 key cultivation disciplines, 3 military "double" construction disciplines and professional fields, 22 military first-batch key clinical specialties and 3 army key cultivation specialties, 6 Chongqing "first-class disciplines", 1 national key laboratory, 1 national engineering technology research center, 2 national and local joint engineering laboratories, 2 international joint research centers, 4 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 1 engineering research center and 1 basic medical research center of the Ministry of Education, 4 key (functional) laboratories of military logistics research, 3 national experimental teaching demonstration centers and national virtual simulation experimental teaching centers, and 9 disciplines are among the top 1% of international ESI. There are more than 1,700 senior professional and technical personnel, including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 4 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 21 professional and technical major generals, experts with treatment level 5 and above technical level 3, more than 110 national high-level talents such as "National Outstanding Youth", "Changjiang Scholars" and "Ten Thousand Talents Program", 42 people were selected into the military high-level scientific and technological innovation talent project, and 13 teams were selected into the innovation teams of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. The three main medical disciplines of basic medicine, clinical medicine, and public health and preventive medicine entered Class A in the fifth round of national discipline evaluation, and were successfully selected as universities for the construction of national high-level public health colleges. In more than 80 years of school-running practice, it has always adhered to the direction of running schools for the military, formed distinct characteristics and advantages of military medicine, and made important historical contributions to national defense and military modernization. The quality of talent training continues to improve. Vigorously cultivate red military doctors with "firm political convictions and excellent technical skills", and have successively provided 200,000 high-quality military medical talents to the troops, and have cultivated 20 academicians, more than 160 technical experts above level 3, and more than 100 generals. The military science and technology innovation has achieved fruitful results. The military medical discipline system represented by combat trauma medicine, plateau military medicine, and military preventive medicine has been formed. It has the only national key laboratory of "Trauma, Burns and Combined Injury" in our army and the only one in the country, the Weapon Killing Biological Effects Assessment Center, and the largest plateau environment simulation hypobaric cabin group in Asia. It has successfully developed my country's first medical train, all types of armored ambulances of our army, and a series of combat injury first aid equipment. It has taken the lead in building the Plateau Medical Research Center of the whole army and the actual combat training and exercise base for biosafety defense. It has won more than 2,000 scientific and technological awards marked by 7 first prizes of national scientific and technological progress, 34 second prizes of national scientific and technological progress, 1 second prize of national natural science, and 2 second prizes of national technological invention. The quality of medical service guarantee is excellent. The affiliated hospital has long been among the top 100 hospitals in China. The clinical treatment level of burns, war trauma, hepatobiliary, orthopedics, cardiovascular, respiratory, infection, ophthalmology, neurology and other disciplines is in the leading position in the country. A number of distinctive cutting-edge technologies have been formed in the fields of minimally invasive surgery, precision medicine, stem cell and regenerative medicine, tumor biotherapy, assisted reproduction, gene diagnosis and treatment, and medical big data application. It has directed 17 military and local medical institutions to help them, and has sent medical teams to the plateau, border defense, and islands all year round to carry out the "Red Military Doctor Border Tour" activities. It has been rated as "the advanced unit of the whole army serving the troops" many times. The construction of medical service combat readiness is strong and powerful. It has participated in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the War of Liberation, the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, the Sino-Indian and Sino-Vietnamese Self-Defense Counterattack War, etc., and faithfully fulfilled the sacred duty of saving lives and healing the wounded. It has built practical training platforms such as the "Comprehensive Medical Training Base", "War Trauma Clinical Skills Training Center" and "Health Train Training Base" for the whole army, and has represented our army many times to go abroad to carry out joint exercises, international rescue, medical services and other major tasks. As the strategic medical force of our army and the backbone of national emergency rescue, it has played the role of a commando and main force in dozens of major non-war military operations such as fighting SARS, fighting Ebola, fighting the new crown pneumonia epidemic, and earthquake relief. It has been awarded the title of "National Earthquake Relief Hero Group" by the CPC Central Committee, the State Council and the Central Military Commission twice.
