Chongqing University of Science and Technology is a full-time public general undergraduate college. The predecessor of the school was the Chongqing Industrial College and Chongqing Petroleum College, which were originally affiliated to the central ministries and commissions and founded in 1951. In May 2004, the Ministry of Education approved the merger of the two schools to establish Chongqing University of Science and Technology. In November 2023, the Ministry of Education agreed to change the name of Chongqing University of Science and Technology to Chongqing University of Science and Technology. The school is a pilot unit of the National Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program, the vice chairman unit of the National Alliance of Applied Technology Universities (Colleges), the vice chairman unit of the National Alliance of Graduate Education Development of Applied Universities, and the chairman unit of the Chongqing Municipal University Transformation and Development Alliance. It is a high-level new engineering university that Chongqing City focuses on supporting. It has been rated as a national demonstration university for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform and a typical university for innovation and entrepreneurship in the country. In 2011, the school became a pilot unit for engineering master's professional degree graduate education in the "Service National Special Needs Talent Training Project", became a master's degree awarding unit in 2017, and became a doctoral degree awarding project construction unit in 2021. The school is located in the central area of Western (Chongqing) Science City, with a beautiful campus environment and complete learning, living, cultural and sports facilities.
