The predecessor of Chongqing University of Chinese Medicine was Chongqing School of Traditional Chinese Medicine founded by the Ministry of Health of the Southwest Military and Political Committee in 1951. It was renamed Chongqing School of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Sichuan Province and Chongqing School of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2001, Chongqing School of Traditional Chinese Medicine was integrated into Chongqing Medical University as a whole to form the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Chongqing Medical University. In 2022, with the approval of the Chongqing Municipal People's Government and the Ministry of Education, the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Chongqing Medical University was established based on the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Chongqing Medical University, and the high-quality teaching and scientific research resources of traditional Chinese medicine such as Chongqing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chongqing Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Chongqing Institute of Drug Planting were fully integrated to form Chongqing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It was unveiled on June 30, 2023 and officially opened on September 2. The college is located in Chongqing Industry-Education Integration Ecological Zone (University Town West District), No. 61 Puguobao Road, Bicheng Street, Bishan District, Chongqing City. It is close to the mountains and rivers, with convenient transportation and beautiful environment. The total planned construction area of the college is 1,686.47 acres. The college has teaching and research equipment worth about 140 million yuan, a paper collection of 510,000 volumes, 7 directly affiliated hospitals, 23 planned affiliated hospitals and teaching hospitals, and 50 practical teaching bases for traditional Chinese medicine. It has 10 national key specialties of traditional Chinese medicine, 5 national key clinical specialties, 1 pilot of the national excellent doctor (traditional Chinese medicine) education and training program, and 27 provincial key disciplines. It has co-built and shared 1 doctoral degree authorization point and 4 master's degree authorization points with Chongqing Medical University. It has 2 of the first batch of national traditional Chinese medicine inheritance and innovation project construction units, 1 national traditional Chinese medicine inheritance and innovation center construction unit, 33 scientific research platforms at or above the provincial and ministerial levels, 1 national traditional Chinese medicine advantage and characteristic education and training base (traditional Chinese medicine), 1 national traditional Chinese medicine advantage discipline continuing education base (traditional Chinese medicine resources), 1 national traditional Chinese medicine culture propaganda base, and 5 school-level experimental platforms, which provide important platform support for the college to carry out talent training and scientific research. The college currently has more than 400 teachers, more than 80% of whom have postgraduate degrees, and more than 40% of whom have associate senior titles or above. Among them, there are 3 national famous Chinese medicine practitioners, 2 national young Qihuang scholars, 17 experts with special allowances from the State Council, 14 experts from the inheritance studio of national famous old Chinese medicine experts, 20 high-end medical talents in Chongqing, and 3 high-level talents introduced from overseas. Currently, 11 undergraduate majors have been set up, including Chinese medicine, Chinese medicine, acupuncture and massage, Chinese medicine orthopedics, Chinese and Western clinical medicine, Chinese medicine pharmacy, Chinese medicine rehabilitation, Chinese medicine health, Chinese medicine resources and development, nursing, and health services and management. In 2023, the college will enroll 1,200 students for the first time, and plans to have 6,000 full-time students (including graduate students) by 2026 and 10,000 full-time students (including graduate students) by 2030. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period and in the future, the college will continue to be guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, adhere to the party's overall leadership and socialist direction of running schools, and be based in Chongqing, serve the west, radiate across the country, and go towards the world. In accordance with the instructions and requirements of "inheriting the essence, adhering to the truth and making innovations", adhering to the school motto of "enlightening virtue and benefiting the world, and benefiting people with fine skills", upholding the school-running philosophy of "giving equal importance to traditional Chinese medicine and Chinese pharmacology, and integrating teaching, research, medicine and industry", exploring the development path of "establishing the school on teaching, developing the school through talents, strengthening the school through scientific research, and enriching the school through industry", following the laws of traditional Chinese medicine education and teaching and talent growth, creating "three-in-one famous teachers" of "teachers who can treat diseases, doctors who can teach, and scientists who can educate people", and allocating "three types of mentors" of "medical mentors, scientific research mentors, and growth mentors" for students, insisting on the integrated development of institutional education and apprenticeship education, taking undergraduate education as the main body, actively developing postgraduate education, coordinating the development of education for international students and continuing education, and focusing on cultivating high-quality application-oriented talents with all-round development of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor, who love traditional Chinese medicine, have noble morals, solid foundation, excellent skills, and have innovative spirit and practical ability, and strive to build a high-level traditional Chinese medicine college with distinctive characteristics, outstanding advantages, coordinated teaching, research, medicine and industry, and nationally renowned.
