A university committed to providing professional education and engaging in applied research City University of Hong Kong (abbreviated as "CityU") is one of the eight higher education institutions funded by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. It is a young, progressive and international multidisciplinary university. Among the approximately 1,100 teachers from 25 countries, there is a Fields Medal and Wolf Prize winner, 8 world-class academicians, 58 visiting professors, more than 500 with doctoral degrees from renowned overseas universities, and 150 who have worked as full-time teachers and researchers at overseas universities for a long time. CityU's teaching philosophy and methods are internationalized, the teaching language is English, seminar-style teaching is implemented, and the credit system is adopted. The course content emphasizes the combination of theory and practice, and the course design keeps pace with the times, emphasizing the integration with the international community and the market, and focusing on market orientation and employment prospects. CityU expands foreign exchanges in all directions and develops various forms of cooperative relations. So far, it has established more than 460 cooperative exchange projects with about 290 universities and research institutions in 41 countries and regions. CityU students can participate in student exchange programs, summer exchange visits and internships. A university belonging to Hong Kong and facing Greater China, the Pearl of the Orient, is full of wind and clouds; an international metropolis, with the sun and the moon. Today, the walls of the “city” are also expanding. In recent years, CityU has made great efforts to expand its in-depth cooperation with educational and scientific research institutions in the Mainland, especially to combine the scientific research strengths of Hong Kong and the Mainland to jointly develop high-tech industries and improve the quality of higher education in both places, and to contribute its own strength to China's education cause: (1) In September 2005, CityU signed an agreement with the Shenzhen Municipal Government and officially moved into the National University Science Park "Hong Kong Institutions Industry-University-Research Base", and established the CityU Shenzhen Research Institute as a base for developing applied research, nurturing industrial projects and promoting teaching and training in the Mainland; (2) The University of Science and Technology of China and City University of Hong Kong Joint Advanced Research Center (Suzhou) officially started operation in Suzhou Industrial Park in October 2005, and the joint training programs for master's and doctoral students of the two universities are in operation; (3) In 2008, CityU was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China to establish the National Key Laboratory of Millimeter Waves, becoming the first national key laboratory in the field of engineering in Hong Kong. (4) In 2005, CityU was included in the list of the first batch of key universities in China by the Ministry of Education. It recruits outstanding high school graduates from the mainland in accordance with the procedures and methods of the mainland key universities. In the past four years, 782 outstanding high school graduates from the mainland have been admitted from 25 provinces and cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shandong, Fujian, Guangdong, Hubei, Hunan, Chongqing, Sichuan, Tianjin, Liaoning, Guangxi, Shaanxi, Henan, Hainan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Jiangxi, Anhui, Shanxi, Jilin, Hebei and Heilongjiang.
