Civil Aviation University of China is affiliated to the Civil Aviation Administration of China. It is an industry-oriented university with coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as engineering, management, science, economics, literature, law, and art. It is a university jointly built by the Civil Aviation Administration of China, Tianjin Municipality, and the Ministry of Education. It is a "double first-class" university in Tianjin and a high-level characteristic university. The school adheres to the fundamental task of cultivating people with moral integrity, implements the three-in-one educational concept of value shaping, ability training, and knowledge imparting, and strives to cultivate high-quality scientific and technological innovation talents, professional and technical talents, and international talents. The predecessor of the school was the Second Civil Aviation School of the Civil Aviation Administration of the Chinese People's Revolutionary Military Commission established in 1951. It was renamed the Civil Aviation College of China in 1981. With the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was renamed the Civil Aviation University of China in 2006. The development of the school has always received the cordial care of the leaders of the Party and the country. At the beginning of the school, Chairman Mao Zedong appointed General Fang Huai as the president, and Premier Zhou Enlai selected the school site. In 2011, Zhang Dejiang, then member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, attended the 60th anniversary celebration of the school. In 2021, Liu He, then member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, sent a written speech to the 70th anniversary celebration of the founding of the school. Since its establishment, the school has been based on civil aviation, serving the society and facing the world, adhering to the original intention of "building civil aviation, developing civil aviation and strengthening civil aviation", the family and country feelings of "loyalty, patriotism and struggle", the school motto of "Mingde Zhishan, Hongyi Xingbang", the school spirit of "strict and upward", the teaching style of "respecting morality and strictness, establishing learning and establishing people", and the style of study of "diligent learning, profound knowledge, rigorous and innovative". The school currently has two campuses in Tianjin Dongli and Ninghe, as well as three main flight training bases in Chaoyang, Liaoning, Hulunbuir, Inner Mongolia, and Shihezi, Xinjiang. The campus covers an area of 2,969 acres and a construction area of 874,000 square meters. The first phase of the Ninghe campus has been completed and put into operation, and the second phase of the project is about to start construction. The Daxing Civil Aviation Science and Technology Innovation Base (Civil Aviation University Project) has obtained the feasibility study approval of the Civil Aviation Administration. There are more than 29,000 full-time students, including more than 3,600 graduate students and more than 240 international students. There are 16 colleges (branches), as well as graduate schools, science and technology innovation institutes, etc. The school has built a new era of civil aviation colleges "1232" (one leading, two driving, three supporting, and two guarantee) ideological and political education system, that is, insisting on loyalty education as the guide, ideological and political courses and curriculum ideological and political as the driving force, quasi-military management system, model, platform as the support, management services, campus culture as the guarantee, and continuously deepening the "three-dimensional education" work, and continuously strengthening ideological and political courses and curriculum ideological and political construction, and achieved fruitful results. It has been approved to have 2 ideological and political demonstration courses of the Ministry of Education, 9 ideological and political demonstration courses of Tianjin, 4 characteristic demonstration courses of innovation and entrepreneurship education in Tianjin, and 6 excellent ideological and political textbooks of Tianjin. Among them, students of civil aviation-specific majors such as flight technology, flight attendants, air safety and security, and transportation implement a quasi-military management system. In recent years, the school has been approved as two Tianjin Online Ideological and Political Teachers Studios, initiated the establishment of the Civil Aviation Colleges Ideological and Political Courses Young Teachers Alliance, and was approved as the China Civil Aviation Industry Cultural Research Center. The school has built a top civil aviation discipline ecology of "top safety, first-class transportation, well-known aerospace, high-quality information, cross-disciplinary science, and characteristic cultural management". It currently has the first postdoctoral research station in China's civil aviation (safety science and engineering), 1 first-level discipline doctoral authorization point (safety science and engineering),14 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 7 professional degree master's degree authorization points. The first-level discipline of safety science and engineering was selected into the first-class discipline of Tianjin and the top discipline cultivation plan of Tianjin universities. Five discipline groups including transportation, aerospace and civil aviation information security and application were selected into the characteristic discipline groups of Tianjin. The school actively implemented the reform of graduate education in the new era, won 1 special prize of Tianjin Graduate Teaching Achievement Award, 3 projects were selected into the theme case collection of the Degree and Graduate Education Development Center of the Ministry of Education, 4 projects were selected into the first batch of research, production and teaching integration workstations in Tianjin, 6 projects were rated as "Typical Cases of Graduate Education Reform in the New Era in Tianjin", and 1 national demonstration engineering professional degree graduate joint training base. In the past three years, graduate students have won a total of 40 awards in various disciplines, including 22 national awards and 18 provincial and ministerial awards. The school currently has 47 undergraduate majors, including 8 national first-class undergraduate major construction points, 16 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction points, and 3 national characteristic major construction points. The majors of transportation and communication engineering have passed the engineering education certification. Sino-European Institute of Aeronautical Engineers has been certified twice by the French Commission des Ingenieriques (CTI). Three majors, including electronic information engineering, aircraft power engineering and aircraft manufacturing engineering, have been certified by the International Aviation Accreditation Board (AABI), becoming the first university in China to pass the international aviation education certification. Aircraft operation and maintenance engineering and aviation security management are the only undergraduate majors in the country with civil aviation characteristics. There are currently 6 national first-class undergraduate construction courses, 1 Ministry of Education boutique video open course, and 38 Tianjin first-class undergraduate construction courses. It has 14 provincial and ministerial teaching teams. There are 2 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 1 national virtual simulation experiment center, 1 national engineering practice education center, 3 virtual teaching and research office construction sites of the Ministry of Education, and 2 Tianjin Modern Industry Colleges (Civil Aviation Engineering Industry College, Civil Aviation Flight Industry College). 2 civil aviation teacher teaching development centers have been approved. Won 2 national teaching achievement awards and 3 provincial and ministerial teaching achievement awards. The school integrates innovation, entrepreneurship and subject competitions into the whole process of talent training, and has won many national awards in the China International College Student Innovation Competition, the National College Student Mathematical Modeling Competition, and the National College Student Electronic Design Competition. The proportion of outstanding fresh graduates recommended to study for postgraduates without examination has increased year by year. The school currently has 1 National Key Laboratory of Air Traffic Control Operation Safety Technology, 5 Civil Aviation Administration Key Laboratories, 5 Tianjin Key Laboratories, 1 Tianjin Technology Innovation Center, 1 Tianjin Engineering Research Center, and 7 provincial and ministerial think tanks. Joint research has been carried out around the "bottleneck" problems in the industry, providing important technical support for the airworthiness certification of the C919 large passenger aircraft, successfully completing the acceptance of 7 large aircraft special projects and 2 civil aircraft special scientific research projects during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, and won nearly 30 provincial and ministerial second prizes and above. 7 new major scientific research projects for civil aircraft special projects on "sustainable aviation fuel" and 7 national key research and development plan projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology have been added. It has been approved as a national transportation science popularization base, the first batch of excellent university science and technology parks in Tianjin, and the Tianjin University Intellectual Property Operation Center, and has completed 237 scientific and technological achievements transformation, and the annual output value of scientific and technological achievement transformation enterprises has exceeded 100 million yuan. The library has 2.51 million paper books, 3.31 million electronic books, 108 databases, and has built the COMAC, Airbus, Boeing, and Safran reference rooms, and opened the COMAC Online, Boeing Online, and Airbus Online websites. In 2007, the Sino-European Institute of Aeronautical Engineers was co-founded with the French Aerospace University Group (GEA). In 2016, it was rated as an "Excellent Sino-French University Cooperation Project" by the Chinese and French governments. It has jointly carried out credit recognition and dual degree programs with universities such as Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in the United States. The school is a gold member of the ICAO TRAINAIR PLUS Programme. At the same time, it has been approved by the Ministry of Education as an innovative base for the collaborative training of foreign-related legal talents (cultivation). The school has trained a large number of talents for business development, and the graduate placement rate and salary index have always been at the forefront of colleges and universities nationwide, which has been generally recognized by employers and widely praised by the society.
