The College of Arts and Sciences of Yangtze University is a full-time undergraduate general college established by Yangtze University in 2004, confirmed by the Ministry of Education of China. The college is currently run by Yangtze University and Jingzhou Chengfa Education Development Co., Ltd. 1. Campus Overview The school is located in Jingzhou City, Hubei Province, the birthplace of Chu culture, the cultural center of the Three Kingdoms, and a national historical and cultural city. The new campus is located in Jingzhou University City, built along the river, with a beautiful environment and complete teaching and scientific research service infrastructure. It will be put into use in April 2023. The school campus covers an area of 904 acres and the school building area is 353,000 square meters. There are 109 laboratories of various types, 508 internship bases on and off campus, and the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is more than 61 million yuan. The library has a paper collection of 801,000 volumes, 22,000 full-text electronic journals (including sharing), 1.51 million full-text electronic books (including sharing), and 68 Chinese and foreign databases of various types (including sharing). The sports facilities are complete, with standardized athletic fields, various ball games and gymnasiums, dance rooms, gymnastics rooms, martial arts rooms and other activity venues. 2. Disciplines and majors The school has a complete range of disciplines, strong comprehensiveness and distinctive characteristics, covering 10 disciplines such as economics, law, education, literature, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, and art. The school has 11 teaching units, including the Department of Economics and Law, the School of Education and Psychology, the School of Humanities and Media, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Information and Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Architecture and Design, the Department of Mathematics and Medical Care, the School of Management, the School of Marxism, the Department of Physical Education and the Department of Higher Vocational Education, 40 undergraduate majors and 16 junior college majors. Three majors, including Business English, English, and Marketing, have been listed as first-class undergraduate major construction sites in Hubei Province; four majors, including Electronic Information Engineering, Marketing, Gardening, and English, have been listed as pilot projects for the "Comprehensive Reform of Majors" of undergraduate colleges in Hubei Province; three majors, including Mechanical Design and Manufacturing and Automation, Electronic Information Engineering, and Gardening, have been selected into the Talent Training Program for Strategic Emerging (Pillar) Industries in Hubei Province. 3. Education and Teaching The school adheres to the school-running service orientation of "based in Jingzhou, facing Hubei, radiating the whole country", aims to cultivate "two-use and three-adaptation" talents (i.e., cultivating practical and applied talents who can adapt to society, competition and development), and continuously improves the quality of education and teaching. In 2010, it passed the undergraduate professional teaching qualification evaluation of ordinary colleges and universities in Hubei Province. Nine courses including graphic composition, college English A, English phonetics, accounting principles, cross-border e-commerce, social practice, English writing, radio program editing and production, and Chinese teaching theory were listed as provincial first-class undergraduate courses. It was awarded 1 provincial teaching team in Hubei Province, 2 excellent grassroots teaching organizations in Hubei Province, and 2 teaching achievement awards for higher education institutions in Hubei Province. The school integrates practical ability training and innovation and entrepreneurship education into the whole process of talent training, and actively implements the national college student innovation and entrepreneurship training plan, the pilot project of comprehensive reform of undergraduate majors and the talent training plan for strategic emerging (pillar) industries. The school has a number of scholarships and grants, including national scholarships, national motivational scholarships, national grants, national student loans, Yangtze University College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Student Scholarships, and work-study grants, to encourage students to study hard. 4. Faculty The school has a well-structured and relatively stable high-quality faculty and education management team. There are 634 full-time teachers, 43.30% of whom are teachers with senior professional titles; 66.79% of them have master's and doctoral degrees. 5. Scientific research In the past five years, the school teachers have presided over and undertaken 162 scientific (teaching) research projects at all levels and types, including 108 projects at the department level and above and 52 school-level projects. Published 462 academic papers, including more than 100 core and above papers. Obtained 14 patent authorizations. Edited and participated in the editing of 76 books and textbooks. 6. Talent training The school currently has 9,715 full-time students. The school takes moral education as its fundamental principle and provides education that satisfies the people as its purpose. It strives to strengthen ideological and political education, cultivate students' innovative spirit, improve students' practical ability, and comprehensively improve the quality of applied talent training. The school won the first special prize for outstanding achievements in party building and ideological and political work in private colleges and universities in the Ministry of Education and the honorary title of "Charming College" by Xinhuanet. The school has emerged with a national group of heroic college students who bravely sacrificed themselves to save others - the "10.24" Yangtze River rescue college student hero group; "China University Student Self-improvement Star" Yang Jinxia, Tian Rui, Li Wenjie, Yu Jieying and other outstanding students; and Liu Ping, winner of the National Civilized Family and the National Most Beautiful Family, and Wang Wenhao, a doctoral student at Peking University, who were cordially met by General Secretary Xi Jinping. In the past five years, students have achieved remarkable results in subject competitions, and more than a thousand students have won awards in various national and provincial competitions; the admission rate of students to postgraduate entrance examinations has increased year by year. 20 students majoring in landscape architecture participated in the 2018 master's degree entrance examination, and 16 were admitted, with an admission rate of 80%; the national legal professional qualification examination pass rate is about 40% per year, which exceeds the national law examination pass rate of about 14% per year; the initial employment rate of graduates has remained above 90%, and is generally well received by employers. VII. Open School The school adheres to open schooling and vigorously promotes international education and school-enterprise cooperation education. It has carried out "2+2", "3+1", "4+1", "3+1+1" and other dual degree and undergraduate-master international education with universities such as the University of Strathclyde in the UK, Chonnam National University in South Korea, the Catholic University of Kwandong, Sookmyung Women's University, and Glasgow Caldonia University; it shares the resources of Yangtze University and cooperative universities in the United States, Japan, Ireland and other countries as well as Hong Kong and Taiwan, and participates in "exchange students", "double bachelor's degrees", "applying for a master's degree", "summer paid practice" and other learning, further study and practice. At the same time, the school has established a school-enterprise cooperation platform with various units such as Chinasoft International Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Baoye Steel Structure Construction Co., Ltd., and actively carried out talent training through industry-university-research cooperation. The school is aiming to create a distinctive, outstanding and well-known domestic applied undergraduate university.
