Dalian Jiaotong University is the only higher education institution in Northeast China that features rail transit. In 1956, the school was founded in response to the development needs of my country's railway locomotive and vehicle industry, and was then known as Dalian Locomotive and Vehicle Manufacturing School. In 1958, it was upgraded to Dalian Railway Institute, under the management of the former Ministry of Railways. In February 2000, it was transferred to the management of the Liaoning Provincial Government. In May 2004, it was renamed Dalian Jiaotong University. In the long history of running schools, the school has always adhered to the mission of the university, insisted on serving the regional economy and society, the development of the rail transit industry and the national strategic needs, formed the school motto of "Mingde Seeking, Perseverance", and trained more than 100,000 graduates. Most of the graduates are employed in the rail transit industry, and some have become industry leaders and core technical backbones, enjoying the reputation of "Cradle of Engineers in China's Rail Transit Equipment Manufacturing Industry" in the industry. The school currently has two campuses, Shahekou Campus and Lushunkou Campus, covering a total area of 821,000 square meters and a total building area of 546,000 square meters. The total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 447 million yuan, the total amount of library document resources is 1.3232 million volumes, 1.5924 million electronic books, and 41,254 Chinese and foreign electronic journals. The school has the right to confer doctoral, master's and bachelor's degrees, and is a key university for the construction of first-class disciplines in Liaoning Province. Mechanical engineering and materials science and engineering are first-class disciplines in Liaoning Province's colleges and universities; mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering, and transportation engineering are provincial key disciplines. It has two postdoctoral research stations in mechanical engineering and materials science and engineering, two first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 13 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, 6 master's professional degree authorization categories, 50 undergraduate majors, and 5 five-year double majors, covering 7 disciplines including engineering, management, literature, science, economics, law, and art. At present, there are 19,349 full-time students, including 16,084 undergraduates and 3,265 master's and doctoral students. The school has the qualification to recommend outstanding undergraduate graduates to study for postgraduates without examination. It is the second batch of universities implementing the Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program of the Ministry of Education, the National Software Talent International Training Base (Dalian), the National Talent Training Model Innovation Experimental Zone, the National High-level Sports Team Construction College and Sports Culture Research Base, the Liaoning Province Vehicle Engineering Shortage Undergraduate Talent Training Base, the Liaoning Province Service Outsourcing Talent Training Base and the Dalian Northeast Asia International Shipping Talent Training Base. In October 2006, it passed the undergraduate teaching work level evaluation of the Ministry of Education with an "excellent" result. The school currently has 16 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 2 national comprehensive reform pilot majors, 5 pilot majors of the Ministry of Education's Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program, and 10 China Engineering Education Certification Majors; 4 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, provincial first-class undergraduate education demonstration majors, characteristic majors, key support majors, comprehensive reform pilot majors, engineering talent training model reform pilot majors, internationalization pilot majors, application-oriented transformation majors, and innovation and entrepreneurship education reform pilots. 46 construction sites. The school currently has 1,421 faculty members, including 1,032 full-time teachers, 91% of whom have master's and doctoral degrees, 27% of whom are dual-qualified and dual-capable teachers, 54% of whom are senior professional teachers, and 55% of young and middle-aged teachers under the age of 45. The school currently has 5 national talent project candidates, 36 provincial and ministerial outstanding teachers and teaching masters, 5 provincial ideological and political teaching masters and teams; 22 provincial outstanding young backbone teachers; 8 provincial teaching teams, including 2 Huang Danian-style teacher teams in Liaoning Province. The school is a national advanced unit for industry-university-research cooperation and an innovation base for industry-university-research cooperation in Liaoning Province. The "China Rail Transit Equipment Manufacturing Innovation Alliance" was initiated and established, and the "Liaoning Rail Transit Industry School-Enterprise Alliance" and "Continuous Extrusion Industry Innovation Alliance" were established. There are 40 national, provincial and ministerial science and technology platforms, social science bases, think tanks, etc., including the National University Science and Technology Park, the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center, the Ministry of Education Engineering Center, the National Technology Transfer Demonstration Institution, and the Liaoning Higher Education Industry Research Institute. Since 2018, the school has undertaken 98 national projects such as the National Key R&D Program, the National Natural Science Foundation, and the National Social Science Foundation, and has been approved for 525 provincial and ministerial projects; 25 awards at the provincial and ministerial levels or above; 175 academic works have been published, and 334 invention patents have been authorized. The school is a receiving institution for Chinese government scholarship students and an experimental base for innovative talent training in the 121 project of the "China-US Talent Training Program". It has established inter-school cooperation with more than 100 colleges and universities and educational research institutions in 24 countries and regions such as Australia, the United States, Japan, and Russia. The school has established a Sino-foreign cooperative school-the School of Transportation of Dalian Jiaotong University Yuanjiao University with the approval of the Ministry of Education. It has three undergraduate education programs in Sino-foreign cooperative education, and has built a Sino-Japanese Friendship Dalian Talent Training Center. The school has been awarded the title of "Advanced Party Organization of Liaoning Higher Education Institutions" and has become a cultivation and creation unit of "Provincial Party Building Demonstration University". The school is an advanced unit for summer social practice for college students nationwide, and has twice won the Outstanding Organization Award in the National College Students' Art Exhibition and Performance Activities. Two achievements, including the "Hundreds of Millions of Young Marxists Training Project", have been rated as outstanding achievements in the construction of campus culture in colleges and universities of the Ministry of Education, and have been awarded the titles of "National Railway May Fourth Red Flag Youth League Committee" and "Liaoning Province May Fourth Red Flag Youth League Committee".
