Dalian Ocean University is the only multidisciplinary university in northern my country with marine and fishery disciplines as its characteristics, and coordinated development of agriculture, engineering, science, management, literature, law, economics, and art. The school was founded in 1952. It was formerly the Northeast Fisheries Technical School. It was upgraded to Dalian Fisheries College in 1958 and Dalian Fisheries College in 1978. In 2000, it was transferred from the Ministry of Agriculture to Liaoning Province for management. In 2010, it was renamed Dalian Ocean University with the approval of the Ministry of Education. The school is located in the beautiful coastal city of Dalian. There are three campuses: the Yellow Sea Campus, the Bohai Campus, and the Wafangdian Campus, covering an area of 670,000 square meters, with a sea area of 670,000 square meters for teaching and scientific research, and a total construction area of 410,000 square meters. The school currently has 15 colleges and 1 teaching department. There are more than 1,200 faculty and staff, and about 18,000 full-time students. There are 12 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 47 second-level disciplines, 7 master's professional degree authorization categories, 22 fields, and 52 undergraduate majors. The school has a complete discipline system and obvious advantages and characteristics. In 2017, it was selected as a key university for the construction of first-class disciplines in Liaoning Province. The first-level discipline of aquatic products is a "double first-class" construction discipline in Liaoning Province. The "Plant and Animal Science" discipline in the field of agronomy based on the aquatic product discipline has entered the top 1% of the ESI global ranking. The discipline ranked fourth in the fourth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education. The school continues to strengthen teaching reform and construction, and actively promotes the connotation-based development of education and teaching. It has won 1 first prize and 1 second prize for national excellent teaching achievements. In the selection of provincial teaching achievement awards in the past two sessions, it has won 22 undergraduate teaching achievement awards. It has been approved by the Ministry of Education for 2 "new engineering" projects, 3 "new agricultural" projects, and 6 provincial "new engineering", "new agricultural" and "new liberal arts" projects. The university has been approved for 1 national pilot project for the reform of the excellent agricultural and forestry talent education and training plan, 1 national pilot program for comprehensive reform of undergraduate majors in local universities, 3 national specialty majors, 21 national and provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, and 46 provincial undergraduate specialty (demonstration) majors, comprehensive reform pilot majors, and innovation and entrepreneurship education reform pilot majors. The university has been approved for 1 national quality course, 126 national and provincial first-class undergraduate courses, 29 provincial quality courses and quality resource sharing courses, and 8 provincial first textbook construction awards. The university has been approved for 1 national talent training model innovation experimental zone, 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 1 national college student practice education base construction project, 6 provincial modern industrial colleges, and 29 provincial college student practice education bases, experimental teaching demonstration centers, virtual simulation experimental teaching centers, and college student innovation and entrepreneurship education. The university has strengthened the reform of graduate education and teaching, and won 8 graduate teaching achievement awards in the past two provincial teaching achievement awards. The university has been approved to have 1 national-level agricultural professional degree graduate practice education characteristic base, 6 science and technology courtyards of the Ministry of Education, 7 science and technology courtyards of the China Rural Professional and Technical Association, 19 provincial professional degree graduate joint training demonstration bases, and 1 provincial marine aquaculture graduate innovation and academic exchange center. It has also been approved as a provincial professional degree graduate education comprehensive reform pilot unit. The school's scientific and technological innovation capabilities are constantly increasing. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, the school has undertaken 2,688 scientific research projects at all levels and types, including the National Key R&D Program and the National Natural Science Foundation, including 156 national projects and 772 provincial and ministerial projects. 45 scientific research results have won awards at the municipal level or above, including 22 provincial and ministerial awards. The "Research and Application of Healthy Breeding Technology of Redfin Oriental Pufferfish" project and the "Key Technology Innovation and Industrialization of the Whole Industry Chain of Cold Water Brown Algae Cultivation and Processing" project presided over by the school have successively won the first prize of Liaoning Science and Technology Progress in 2019 and 2020. The school has been approved for 3 new aquatic species: Manila clam "White Zebra Clam", Yezo Scallop "Moon Shell", and Manila clam "Zebra Clam No. 2". The school has a relatively reasonable structure and a comprehensive coverage of subject areas. There are 824 full-time teachers, including 419 with senior professional titles. The school inherits and carries forward the "spirit of water" and has formed a university culture represented by "one motto and three styles", namely the school motto of "embracing all rivers and moving steadily and far", the school spirit of "self-improvement, enterprising, open and inclusive", the teaching style of "virtue, erudition, and being a model for others", and the style of study of "morality, learning, and high aspirations". The school continues to deepen the "red, green, and blue" talent training concept, adheres to the core socialist values to cultivate souls and educate people, carefully creates cultural brand projects such as the "Blue Forum", has various student clubs such as the "Ocean Voice Choir", regularly holds campus cultural festivals, and continuously enriches the second classroom activities, and the comprehensive quality of students continues to improve. It has a "3+1" cooperation with Otago Polytechnic in New Zealand to organize undergraduate education programs in mechanical design, manufacturing and automation. At the same time, it organizes inter-school exchanges, academic degrees and joint training programs for undergraduate and graduate students with many universities in the United Kingdom, Russia, Australia, Japan, South Korea and other countries. The school has successively joined a number of high-quality international education platforms such as the "China-Norway Maritime University Alliance" and has been approved for the qualification of joint training of Chinese and foreign graduate students under the framework of the International Industry-University-Research Cooperation Conference of the Ministry of Education.
