Dongguan Vocational and Technical College was established in 2009 and is the only public higher vocational college in Dongguan. Since its establishment, the school has relied on the local economic and social development, and has taken "becoming a national first-class vocational and technical college with Dongguan characteristics" as its development goal. It has condensed the school-running model of "cooperation between government, school, industry and enterprise, and integration of learning, production and service", and established the school-running philosophy of "serving students' growth and supporting Dongguan manufacturing". In just over 10 years, it has achieved a leapfrog development from a newcomer in higher vocational education to the first echelon in the province and then to the first echelon in the country: in 2013, it became a "provincial demonstration school" construction unit, in 2016 it became a "provincial first-class school" construction unit, and in 2019 it became a national "double high plan" construction unit, creating the "Dongguan speed" of rapid development of higher vocational colleges in Guangdong Province, and creating a new situation for the development of vocational education in Dongguan. According to Wu Shulian's 2023 ranking of higher vocational colleges, the school ranks 100th among higher vocational colleges in the country. Dongguan University of Science and Technology has three campuses in Songshan Lake, Dalingshan and Daojiao. The main campus is located in the Songshan Lake National High-tech Industrial Development Zone. The total campus area is 750,900 square meters and the building area is 540,200 square meters. There are 899 faculty and staff, more than 12,000 full-time students, and more than 6,100 students in various adult education programs. The school actively integrates into the development strategy of the Greater Bay Area, focuses on the city characteristics of Dongguan's "scientific and technological innovation + advanced manufacturing", connects with the needs of Dongguan's modern industrial system construction, completes the "1+7+2" professional group layout of electronic information, equipment manufacturing, e-commerce logistics, digital creativity, health care, etc., and opens 58 majors such as electronic information technology, mechanical manufacturing and automation. There are 1 national high-level professional group, 7 provincial high-level professional groups, 2 central government-supported vocational college construction majors, 6 provincial key (brand) majors, 6 high-level construction majors, and 2 international engineering certification majors. The school adheres to the moral education of people, further deepens the reform of education and teaching, and has achieved remarkable results in talent training. One national-level teacher teaching innovation team, nine "14th Five-Year Plan" teaching materials for vocational education, and 15 provincial-level online courses have been established. Since its establishment, the school has trained more than 30,000 full-time graduates, and the employment rate of graduates has remained stable at around 98%. The local employment rate in Dongguan has remained at around 60%, and the satisfaction of employers has reached more than 95%. In recent years, students have won nearly 1,100 awards in various competitions, including more than 100 national awards. The school actively carries out school-enterprise cooperation, actively integrates into the construction of Songshan Lake Science City, and promotes the integrated development of industry, education, science and city. It took the lead in establishing the Dongguan Vocational Education "Government, School, Industry and Enterprise" Collaborative Education Steering Committee, and co-built Hucai Digital Printing Industry College and Lijia Packaging Industry College with industry enterprises and government departments in accordance with the mixed ownership model. It has carried out modern apprenticeship talent training cooperation with Huawei, Beijing Jingdiao, Anshi Semiconductor and other companies, and has successively opened 3 modern apprenticeship professional pilots of the Ministry of Education and 18 provincial modern apprenticeship professional pilots. There are 23 provincial-level on-campus and off-campus practical teaching bases for college students, 305 off-campus training bases, 276 on-campus training rooms and 55 on-campus training bases. The school adheres to the strategy of strengthening the school with talents, pays attention to both introduction and cultivation, and cultivates a team of teachers with both moral integrity and skills. The school currently has 672 full-time teachers, including 456 dual-qualified teachers, 217 senior professional titles, 333 intermediate professional titles, and 75 doctors. Teachers have won 1 national teaching achievement award, 7 provincial teaching achievement awards, and have won a total of 56 awards in provincial and above teacher teaching ability competitions. In 2020, the school was established by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education as a "dual-qualified" teacher training base for vocational colleges in Guangdong Province. The school has taken advantage of applied scientific research, and its scientific research and innovation capabilities have been continuously improved. It has successively built 2 national collaborative innovation centers, 9 provincial engineering technology research centers, and 12 municipal engineering technology research centers, and encouraged 15 scientific research innovation teams to give full play to their positive roles in technological innovation, technological transformation, decision-making consultation, and government think tanks. In recent years, the school has won 1 provincial science and technology award, 1 provincial agricultural technology promotion award, 1 Dongguan Science and Technology Progress Award, and 1 municipal philosophy and social science outstanding achievement. It has presided over and participated in the formulation of 18 national industry standards. It has obtained 94 invention patents and 301 utility model patents. It has obtained more than 390 projects at or above the municipal level, including 1 National Social Science Fund Project, 1 key project of the Ministry of Education of the National Education Science Planning Project, 6 humanities and social science projects of the Ministry of Education, 6 Guangdong Natural Science Foundation Projects, and 18 Guangdong Provincial Philosophy and Social Science Planning Projects. According to the evaluation of Shenzhen, the school ranks 59th in the country and 6th in the province in the 2023 China Vocational Colleges Scientific Research and Social Service Competitiveness Ranking. According to statistics released by the Higher Vocational Development Think Tank, during the first round (2019-2023) of the Double High Plan construction, the school won 5 national landmark achievements in scientific research and social services, ranking 5th among the national high-level professional group (C-level) construction units. The school actively connects with the national strategy, actively expands service projects such as academic advancement and vocational training, and creates a brand of continuing education. A number of high-level training platforms have been built, including the China Printing High-skilled Talent Education and Training Base, the Guangdong Vocational College "Dual-qualified" Teacher Training Base, the Guangdong International Service Outsourcing Talent Training Institution, the Dongguan Rural Revitalization College, and the Dongguan Urban Management Training College. One provincial-level demonstration continuing education base, two provincial-level demonstration employee training bases, and five provincial-level community education demonstration bases have been established. Together with the Songshan Lake Management Committee, the Songshan Lake Community College was built to create a community education service platform that integrates "lifelong education, volunteer service, dual-innovation service, and education research". It has hosted the "Dream Plan" for the new generation of industrial workers in Dongguan for 10 consecutive years, and funded more than 5,000 industrial workers to improve their academic qualifications. Over the past decade, the school has trained more than 28,000 students with higher education and continuing education, and has worked hard to cultivate sufficient and high-quality modern industrial workers for Dongguan to build a "capital of skilled talents". Cooperate with the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) in Canada to organize the "Computer Application Technology Major Higher Vocational Education Project"; cooperate with the University of the Sunshine Coast in Australia to organize a credit recognition project. Set up a teaching base at Loughborough College in the UK and open cultural classes for British students. Introduce the British "apprenticeship system" and German "dual system" training teams to carry out teacher concept and teaching skills training. The "Internet +" Sino-Thai International College was established, and a total of 80 academic students have been enrolled. The school vigorously promotes the construction of "Chinese + skills" and "Luban Workshop" to continuously improve the level of international connotation development.
