Fujian University of Technology is located in Fuzhou, a historical and cultural city known as the gateway to the "Maritime Silk Road". It originated from the "Cangxia Jingshe" founded by the famous local celebrities Chen Bi, Sun Baojin, Li Jun, the famous Fujian gentry Lin Shu, and the last imperial tutor Chen Baochen in the late Qing Dynasty in 1896, which pioneered the trend of modern new-style education in Fuzhou. In 1907, it began to hold engineering education and opened two departments, railway and telegraph. Before liberation, it was the prestigious "Fujian Higher Engineering". After 1953, it was separated into Fujian Mechanical and Electrical School and Fujian Construction Engineering School. With the change of times, it changed its name several times. In 1960, it was renamed Fujian Mechanical and Electrical College and Fujian Construction Engineering College respectively. It is known as the "Huangpu Military Academy of the Construction Industry" and "Cradle of Mechanical and Electrical Engineers" in Fujian. In 2000, Fujian Advanced Industrial College and Fujian Zhonghua Vocational University merged to form Fujian Vocational and Technical College. In 2002, Fujian Architectural College and Fujian Vocational and Technical College merged and upgraded to Fujian Engineering College. In 2010, it was selected as one of the first batch of pilot universities of the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education. In 2013, it was approved as a master's degree authorization unit and added as a key construction university in Fujian Province. In 2018, it was selected as a model applied undergraduate college in Fujian Province, a doctoral degree awarding and cultivation unit in Fujian Province, and a first-class discipline construction university in Fujian Province. In 2021, it was approved as a new round of doctoral degree awarding and cultivation unit in Fujian Province. In 2022, it was selected as a first-class applied construction university in Fujian Province (Class A). In June 2023, the Ministry of Education agreed to rename Fujian Engineering College to Fujian University of Science and Technology. Over the past 120 years, the school has adhered to the school motto of "truth, sincerity, diligence, and courage", carried forward the traditional advantages of "big electromechanical and big civil engineering", and faced the emerging field of "big ocean". It has developed into an applied university with engineering as the main focus, integration of science and engineering, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines, and has successively provided the society with more than 200,000 talents of all levels and types. The university has campuses in Qishan, Gushan and Pudong, covering an area of 2,022.61 mu, with a building area of 718,400 square meters, teaching and research equipment worth 531,114,800 yuan, 2,319,200 paper books in the collection, 2,043,400 electronic books, 21,096 full-time students, including 2,128 master's students (including international master's students), 17 colleges (departments), 71 undergraduate majors, covering disciplines such as engineering, management, literature, science, economics, law, and art. There are 1,354 full-time teachers, including 644 with senior professional titles, and 52.22% of full-time teachers with doctoral degrees; there are nearly 100 national and provincial high-level talents such as winners of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, candidates for the National Hundred Thousand Talents Project, and candidates for the China Association for Science and Technology's "Young Talent Support Project", and 20 teaching and scientific and technological innovation teams at or above the provincial level. More than 400 well-known experts at home and abroad have been appointed as honorary professors, distinguished professors, part-time professors and visiting professors. There are currently 6 first-level master's degree-granting disciplines and 9 master's professional degree-granting points, covering 13 master's professional degree fields. It has 3 provincial first-class applied university construction backbone disciplines, 2 provincial plateau disciplines, 4 provincial applied disciplines, 2 provincial applied cultivation disciplines, 1 provincial characteristic key discipline and 5 provincial key disciplines. Engineering and computer science are among the top 1% of ESI disciplines in the world. Civil engineering is in the 201-300 range of the "Soft Science World Class Discipline Ranking" and the top 50% of the "Soft Science China Best Discipline Ranking". The school adheres to the "engineering-oriented, regional, and application-oriented" school-running positioning, closely follows the development of Fujian Province's leading industries and strategic emerging industries, and has formed 8 major professional clusters focusing on service equipment manufacturing, electronic information, construction, modern transportation, ecological and environmental protection industries, etc. There are 14 national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 3 national characteristic majors, 1 national comprehensive reform pilot major, and 24 provincial first-class undergraduate professional construction sites. There are 8 national first-class courses, 1 national ideological and political demonstration course, 2 national quality resource sharing courses, 121 provincial first-class courses, and 5 provincial ideological and political demonstration courses. There are 6 national practical teaching platforms, 1 national industrial college, and 1 "14th Five-Year Plan" higher education teaching material system construction team of the Ministry of Education. Won 1 second prize for national higher education teaching achievements, 44 provincial teaching achievement awards, and 1 provincial ideological and political demonstration center. 15 majors such as civil engineering, mechanical design, manufacturing and automation, and computer science and technology have passed the China Engineering Education Professional Certification or the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development Professional Evaluation Certification. The number of professional certification evaluations passed ranks second among universities in the province and among the top universities in the country. The school actively focuses on the needs of regional industrial development and technological innovation, and serves the society effectively. In 2013, it won 1 second prize in the National Science and Technology Invention Award. Since 2018, the university has won 84 National Natural Science Foundation projects and Humanities and Social Sciences Foundation projects (including 14 transferred projects), 7 National Key R&D Program projects (including 1 project and 6 sub-projects), 1 International Atomic Energy Agency project, and 45 provincial major (key) projects; 59 ministerial and provincial scientific research and innovation platforms such as the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Technology Innovation Center have been established, and 630 invention patents have been authorized; 49 provincial science and technology awards and social science achievement awards have been won, including 43 provincial science and technology awards (including 8 first prizes) and 6 provincial social science outstanding achievement awards. The school adheres to the educational concept of "five-pronged education and all-round development" and fully implements the fundamental task of moral education. In the past five years, students have won 339 international honors, 2379 national honors, and 2173 provincial honors in innovation and entrepreneurship and subject competitions at or above the provincial level. Among them, they won 1 second prize in the main competition, 5 third prizes and other awards in the 18th "Challenge Cup" National College Students' Extracurricular Academic and Scientific Works Competition in 2023. Implement the innovation and entrepreneurship training program for college students, and obtain 180 national projects. Currently, nearly 100 international students from more than 20 countries come to the school to receive high-level academic education, and the international atmosphere of the campus has been effectively improved.
